Castaway Cay CM hurricane plan? [now the Castaway Cat thread]

over50visits -

Let's see the infamous castaway kitty, do you still have the pic? Hopefully the fussy eater gets out with the islanders.

Here he/she is:

OHHHHHH the kitty!!! I hope he/she got off the island!!!

Although I have to say...animals are VERY resourceful...

anybody know the exact condition of CC yet? Have we heard anything?

Hubby and I were just talking about Castaway Cat, since our two furry "kids" were just bugging us for attention, and now I see that he has taken over this thread. I hope that he can find somewhere to take shelter, although after seeing the devastation of the island last time, I must admit that I'm worried about him. Poor baby!

Ohhhh - my heart is just breaking for this poor little kitty. I hope he/she is able to survive if no one took him/her off CC with them - but hopefully some kind CM did. I look at our Lucy, lying very comfortable and safe in DS's bed right now and think what a lucky kitty she is in so many ways! (And she is a dead-ringer for Castaway Kitty lookswise, except she is a bit "plumper"! )

And please - before anyone says it, I realize there is a lot more at stake with this hurricane than one cat's life - my brother lives on the eastern coast of FL, and I worry and pray for everyone who has had to evacuate or is staying with their home to ride out the storm.........but I also have a very soft spot in my heart for animals who are left helpless in situations such as this.

The Weather Channel has a reporter on Abaco Island and the last time she reported it was pretty windy but they weren't expecting seriously bad weather until tomorrow. The latest prediction has the eye slightly past CC by 8pm tomorrow. One of the problems is that Frances is slowing down so the high winds will blow longer in each place.

Hope the cat has lots of his lives left.

We're going on the 9/19 Wonder, so assuming we get to CC I'll look for the Castaway Cat and post how he is.

the cat I saw last time, so there must be more than one cat. The one I saw was darker.

Never missed CC in 39 trips. Lucky. I missed it on a Wonder last Nov/Dec.

3/4 hopefully we will make it on Magic this next November/Dec.

From the cast portal. Looks like they evacuated to Orlando.

Resort Room Availability: As communicated earlier today, we are no longer able to accept room reservations for this weekend. Any rooms that do become available will be needed to shelter Cast Members on ride-out crews, recovery teams, as well as for those Cast Members already staying in Guest rooms due to damage to their homes from Hurricane Charley. In addition, guests evacuated from Disney's Vero Beach Resort and Castaway Cay residents are being relocated to rooms on property.

Here is a pic of the castaway cat we met, I hope they both found shelter.

If I could ever get our scanner to work, I would post the pic of MY Castaway Cat.....the little bugger must be a fighter. He was missing half of one of his ears!

They'll hunker down in a safe place!

I am wondering why you missed CC in Nov/Dec. Were the winds too strong?

I too am worried about Castaway Cat (and friend). I hope we get word on the critters.

Hi just back from the 8/29 Wonder cruise. We ammended our day at sea and were the "rescue ship" for the island staff. Our weather was beautiful and seas were calm but thankfully all the island staff was onboard with us!

Does anyone remember how soon after Floyd that Castaway was fixed up enough for cruisers to visit it again?

We sailed in early November and went to Mexico, not CC. I heard that we were the first since Floyd that even went that far. The trips before us were going to various eastern FL ports and the Keys.

It was our only DVC cruise and we're still looking forward to eventually getting to CC.

According to Deb's website, the Castaway Cay CM are staying at the All Star Sports.

The cats look in good health, someone must be taking care of them.

I don't think the question of clean up has been answered. So, I'll ask again, how long would it take for CC to be up and running again after Frances? Worse case scenerio, would it take weeks? Thanks in advance.

I don't think an answer can be given until a damage assessment is made after the storm. It could involve removing trees/bushes/rubbish, bringing in new sand for the beaches, dredging near the pier for the ship to dock etc. Who knows, until the powers that be are able to physically check out the island, arrange for repairs/cleanup etc. Suffice it to say, DCL is well aware that CC is their #1 drawing card that puts the cruiseline way above other Caribbean ships, so I am sure they will expedite work ASAP. Not the answer you want, but I doubt anyone will pin it down much closer until 'damage control' does its thing.

We were there the first weekend of Feb. 2000 and all we noticed was the dock was pretty tore up. Even though it was our first sailing it was beautiful!!!!!! I wouldn't have know the difference if a CC Club member haden't said anything to me.
