Just wondering if anyone would reccommend renting bicycles on Castaway Cay. It's me, dh, and ds (9mos.). I figure at the other two ports we'll just sit on the beach - so i'd like to do at least something here - as we figure excursions are out of the picture. Are the bikes in good shape, including the infant seats? Where do we bike exactly? And will we be crashing into lots of other bikers because is this a thing lots of families do? I know these are specific questions but this forum is so great almost all my other questions have been answered! thanks!:D :D

We, Me, DW and DD8 rented bicycles on 3/18 at Castaway Cay.

Ask a CM where the bike station is. They will direct you. I think that the location on the map was inaccurate.

No, we didn't crash into any other bikers. The trails, at a minimum, were about 15 feet wide.

We had a great time! The bicycles are in decent shape. They have all sizes - There were child seats on some of the bicycles. We went right after lunch and there were plenty of bikes at that time. When we first picked out the bikes I thought that the tires were a little low on air pressure, but I eventually found out why.

There is a trail... You follow a paved road which turns into an old wide 1/2 mile long runway (at the other end is the adult beach). Then you can follow an old road which takes you to the CM's beach. The road is sandy - that's why the tires are "low" - better traction. There are plenty of water stations along the way. - Big coolers from the ship with really cold water.

The total round trip distance is about 3 miles. We had time to stop at the game building, on the way back, before our hour was up.

The CMs don't really watch the clock. I think that we could have exceeded the hour without a problem. It was lots of fun !

We had a small backpack for our important stuff - we left our other beach stuff on our chair at the beach.

On the family beach - we found a great location - follow the beach until you get to the "wooden fort" - you'll see it in the water. It is close to the "bar", Cookie's BBQ, the restrooms, and the bike rental place. Oh, if you rent the floats (the flat blue ones work better) pick them up on your way. I highly recommend you rent a float.

Thanks for the great info. Looks like we'll definately be renting those bikes and maybe even a float now that you've mentioned it. i'll be sure and pass this info along to the group - there will be 8 families crusing with us and, yes, we're all related.

We did the package of floats, bikes and snorkeling, I think it was about 32.00 per person we will definately do that again. I recommend it.

We have rented bicycles on every cruise. The kids seem to think of it as a tradition. We were going to skip it on our last cruise but the kids were dissapointed. They are $6.00 for an hour. They are single speed pleasure style bikes. They are in good shape. The view at the end of the bike trail is wonderful.

We had no problem with other cyclists and you can go pick up the bikes whenever you are ready. I would recommend it at least once.

Thanks for the info ... we're not cruising until August 2004 but my 7 y.o. grandson can't wait to rent bikes!

Just wondering since I am considering us renting bikes with the child seats on them. I can easily bring the kids' helmets if they don't but I don't want to take a chance & not have anything. Thanks!
