I saw the thread about the barracuda and the sting rays..that's some interesting stuff. has anyone seen jellyfish at CC, and was it on the family side or the adult side? I have this issue w/ jellyfish..:earseek:

I've been to CC five times. I did see one small jellyfish on the adult side in February. That was also the only time that we ever encountered sand fleas. OUCH!:(

Not to worry ... I saw the barracuda and my dear hubby pointed out the sting ray. They didn't bother us at all. Actually they were neat to watch swim around looking at us.

Look at it this way ... IT'S THEIR OCEAN!

Go ahead and enjoy BUT don't spend too much time fretting.

If your "issue" with jellyfish is that you are allergic to them, you might consider purchasing the product that helps with the sea lice (see the thread near the top of the first page).

I understand that there are barracudas on both sides of the island. If you are snorkeling or way out on a float, don't wear any jewelry, I understand that the barracudas are attracted to shinny, flashy dangely thingys (hows that for a description)

The rays won't bother you, just don't touch them in the wrong place (read that on one of the stingray city threads)

I spoke w/ someone at work who used to live in florida, she said to just make sure I take off my jewelry before I go swimming and the barracuda won't be a bother..if I recall correctly I think I did that anyway the last time. I'm not worried about the sting rays, either, I just don't like jellyfish. It's not that I'm allergic to them, it's just that for some reason they make me panic.
On the last cruise we took a taxi to the public beach @ paradise island in nassau- while it was a beautiful beach and I enjoyed it for a while, I eventually put on goggles and looked under the water-that was my mistake. I found I was swimming in front of about 6 or so of the little buggers, I panicked and got out of the water as quickly as I could and refused to go back in. I wasn't worried at all about CC, I'm not sure why. Is it true that they have some of it netted off so things like that can't get in? I'm not sure where I heard that, but that may have been why I was more relaxed. Anyway, thanks for the imput. When I get back from my trip I'll let you know if I lost a finger to the barracuda!

I've never seen a jellyfish, although hubby has seen a barracuda at both the adult beach and the snorkeling area. I've seen stingrays at the adult beach pretty frequently, but the most interesting thing I ever saw was a little squid. It was squirting ink at me in a futile attempt to ward me off, but that only made more people gather around to check it out.

I understand that on the family beach there is netting to keep the larger critters out. I don't thnk that it would stop jelly fish however (except for the BIG ones)

I have read a post from someone on another board (cruise critic) that said they seem a 5 1/2 foot nurse shark at castaway. I pray to god this is not the truth.
