Castaway 5K question

I know since my last cruise in 2018 you no longer go to port adventures to get an excursion ticket and meet up with a group to walk out/start together but that the run is at your leisure that said I have the following questions:

Do you still get a bib and if so where do you get it since there is no meet up?

What is the course (I know the course posted for the paid MW challenge looked different than what I’ve done in the past)?

Is there still a box to put your bag at the start area or should I leave my beach bag with a non running family member

Where do you get medals (if they have them)

Is there a certain time to disembark ship

From my experience on the Fantasy Jan 2022 and the Wish Oct 2022:

No bibs that I saw

From the bike rental stand out to the airstrip, do the bike loop, take a right onto the airstrip upon exit, run towards the end of the runway at Serenity Bay, U-turn, back on airstrip to bike loop, bike loop a second time, left on airstrip at exit, and head back to bike rental kiosk

Is there still a box to put your bag at the start area or should I leave my beach bag with a non running family member

There was in Oct and people doing the run seemed surprised when I opened it and dropped our stuff in. “Wow, that’s I great idea. I didn’t see that there” was what they said. We started a little trend that day

Where do you get medals (if they have them)

Bike rental stand. As I ran to the ”finish” I quipped, “what no cheers from the crowd?” and they were happy to oblige as they handed us the medals (new design if they are in stock). I did check with them before to make sure they were in stock. I need bling.

Is there a certain time to disembark ship

Whenever you want, but usually it’s just getting hotter as the day gets on

I feel like I read somewhere that there are certain official 5k that are part of rundisney events. We will be on the Wish right after the Princess half, will it be a more official format?

There is a Castaway Cay Challenge race that is part of the WDW marathon weekend in January. Turns out that the race was today.

It’s only for marathon weekend
They do the castaway challenge which you can register for when you register for that weekend… I’ve heard conflicting information on if you can do any IN PERSON event as part of it or just the Half, Full, Goofy or Dopey…

If it happens next year you would need to be booked on the Wish four night leaving January 8th 2024 by the time marathon registration opens

Thanks for the info! I’m super happy being unofficial and prefer the new way of the 5k. I was actually worried it was an official one!

I’ve only seen the Castaway Challenge associated with Marathon Weekend. And registration is months in advance and you have to have your cruise reservation number to register.
