Cast member pins on the job

I hope this isn't a dumb question. I'll be working Attractions, so I assume I might need to wear pins and a lanyard on the job. Will Disney provide these for us? Especially since we are obligated to trade with guests who want our pins, I am not sure what the policies are on getting the pins to wear in the parks.

Thanks for an answer!

Not all can attractions pin trade, so it depends on the ride you get placed at. As I understand it, Disney gives you the pins you wear with your costume. Every once in a while, you can go to costuming and ask for a new set of pins if you have pins that people don't want to trade for. Here’s a link to a vlog with more information on pin trading.

Thank you for the response!

And on a side note, I can't believe I wasn't following your blog yet. I know I've read some of the posts, so I assumed I was already following it.

Since you're asking about pin trading, I was wondering if QSFB cast members get to pin trade... do they???

I think it's optional for every line of business BUT Merchentainment - it's required for them.

If you work at a park, I believe there are certain pin replenishing stations you can go to to get fresh pins (I've seen the one in the tunnels at MK). At my job, we just had a few lanyards we would bring out whenever a guest wanted to trade, or, if you were feeling talkative, bring out to wear for the day.

When I was in QSFB, there were no pin lanyards for my location. I was given a pin lanyard in merchandise, character attendant, custodial, and at GMR (when I was at TSM, there was one lanyard that was shared by everyone).

At my current location, we're allowed to have pin lanyards (I have my own hip lanyard). But we're only allowed to wear them when we're at Greeter, Stroller Parking, any outside position, and Head Usher (the person who adjusts the inside ropes).

In Attractions you are allowed to have pins at any position that is not Safety Critical. Por ejemplo, at Kali River Rapids (DAK) you can have pins at Fastpass Distribution, Thank Guests at Kali Exit, Strollers, and EMH ID Check. Height Stick, Fastpass Return, Load (1-6), Fastpass Control, Crossing Guard, Load Assist, Exhibition Guide, Exhibition Base, Unload and High Priest/Priestess are not allowed to have pins because their main focus is to make sure that no children under 38" are sneaking by (which they ALWAYS try to do...)

However, at Maharajah Jungle Trek, all CMs are allowed and I do believe required to wear pin lanyards, as there are no vehicles, and therefore no height requirement.

I just felt like typing a lot. I know I could have summed that up with a lot fewer words. 0(^_^)0

I am very happy to know custodial gets to pin trade! I think it will add to the guest interaction which is what I am most excited for!

It probably is required for Merch people, but I think it also depends on your management. Sometimes (at least in strollers/wheelchairs/ECVs) you almost CAN'T wear them because people will come up to you when you're busy with other things/guests just to ask to look at your pins.. and you can't say no. In any case, I lost my pins a few weeks ago so.. yeah. (I have to replace them by the end of my program. Bleh, hahah.)

Anyhoo, yes, there's a pin replenishment station.. Sometimes guests just aren't interested in any pins you have, and if this happens repeatedly and you haven't traded many pins in a while, you'll go to the pin replenishment area and write down your name, what role you have (merch/QSFB/etc), the date, and how many pins you're trading out. There is someone behind the counter who will give you new pins that guests will be likely to want.

This is what I figured might happen for Attractions. If you're busy with the ride/show/etc, you probably can't stop whatever you're doing to trade. It'd still be fun to wear them and trade, but it would make sense if Disney doesn't want me to.

True. And I have some friends in attractions, too; according to them, they can usually only wear their lanyard when they're greeting - otherwise it's a safety hazard.. but I'm not that familiar with attractions, I could definitely be wrong.

That's correct.
