Just curious what type of discount cast members receive, and if it is any better than what you could get with a code or AP?? Any restrictions??

We asked a few years ago and a CM said that it was 50% off. I don't know if it is better now. It's pretty easy for the average person to get near that with a code or AP. Maybe they have special offers for employees?

I know they get a percentage off of joining DVC-a CM said 20% and others said 15%.

I don't know what discount applies to whom-do the CM's that work at the Disney Store get the same discounts as people who work in Orlando?

No - Disney Store cast members do not receive the same discounts as WDW castmembers. While we do receive some very generous discounts and perks, they don't come close to WDW cm's. But look at everything the WDW cm's put up with: weather (all kinds), crowds, crabby tired kids, crabby tired adults, and some very demanding guests, etc.! Hey wait a minute, that sounds like The Disney Store (except for the weather)! All kidding aside, I think our discounts are very fitting for our varied positions.

sorry to tell you this,

but that is priviledged information. If you REALLY need to know, go to your local TDS (or Disney office), fill out an application, and start talking to the HR Manager about benefits.

CM's have been fired before for letting that information slide.

Really, they have been fired? That's kind of surprising.

I'm sure CM's get asked all the time.

I guess if I ever get a job at Vero Beach (Oh, how I would love this) I'll find out.

I hope it's a good discount-you would think that they would at least get 50% because of all the discounts offered to non-employees.

FYI-I would never work at my local Disney Store. There must be something in the water. Every time I have been in there the CM's have been rude and snotty and generally unfriendly. After about the 5th time I just had to say I wasn't going to go there any more. I realize this paragraph has nothing to do with the original topic. I guess I just needed to vent a little. I'd love to work at the Disney Store, just not at the one here in town.

I'm sorry you've gotten such bad treatment at your local Disney Store!! Too bad you're not closer, you could come to our store where I promise you'd be sprinkled liberally with pixie dust! Don't give up on your store, usually the bad apples tend to not stick around very long!!

DisneyFan09,

I'll give them another chance. I kind of figured the bad apples would be gone quickly but I'm sure things will straighten out.

okay keeping said cm perfectly anonomous, while we were in WDW last week my DS & I had the occasion to chat with a cm while waiting in line with no one else behind us. When we told him/her that we had just gotten off the Magic, she/he said that they really wanted to go on a cruise but was having difficulty because as a cm, one of their restrictions was they had to wait until 60 days prior to sailing before they were allowed to schedule. As with any employer, getting a week's vacation with 2 months notice often isn't easy, so I got the impression that even though it was at a 50% discount, getting the whole thing put together made it a difficult offer to take advantage of.

PR surfer,
I certianly wouldn't expect anyone to put thier job on the line with "official" information, but I'm sure there is alot of "unconfirmed" discounts that people have heard of, like a few of the posters have mentioned.
Didn't "REALLY" need to know. I was only curious.

Castmembers are not at liberty to discuss the discounts they receive. Yes, we can get fired, and yes, we are asked ALL the time.

Suffice it to say, they are nice discounts and perks. If you are interested, as prsurfer said, go to your local Disney Store and become part of the Disney Family.:)

I'm an ex-cast member so I'd be happy to tell you about resort discounts. I don't think there's a problem sharing the following information. Disney has a program called Second Bedroom where CM's can make reservations for friends or family to the tune of 50% off. This is off rack rates so it ends up being about the same as AP and the codes we've all grown to know and love. Sometimes a tad more but not a lot. The catch is this discount isn't always available - it depends on how booked the rooms are. But, typically a cast member can get you a room somewhere using the second bedroom program.
