Cast member appreation

To put a down to earth spin on this odd thread, I'm going to say you should give the CM a 'guest service fanatic' card. They go on their records and make the CMs really happy. :)

This possibly could be the best thing you could do for a cast member if you really want to thank them.

Working for chick-fil-a we used to get this one old lady who would give us peppermints each week. It was a nice gesture but we always through them away because most of the time home of the ones she gave us were opened.

I am not even going to get into the cast member/business debate simply because I think it is a little off topic for this thread.

Wow...really? Disney might be a business but that's not why they call people guests.Walt Disney came up with that and it's been a company tradition since the parks opened.

Also they do a lot for their Cast Members.Way more than any other company would. So maybe there is something goin on upstairs but I believe that Disney is all rainbows and butterflies 24/7

Whatever floats your boat. Just sayin', College Program CMs don't exactly get paid the best wage at Disney.

Personally, I think the service cards are a bit dorky. I think a good, strong, heartfelt "thank you" with a giant smile on your face does more than enough. But that's just me. I know I'd rather receive a heartfelt thank you rather than a service card. Obviously, I'm in the minority so - whatever floats your boat. :goodvibes

yep they sure do. the way they take 75% of earnings away from CP participants, thats so nice of them.

oh, and don't forget the freeze on hiring off the street, and only hiring straight out of the CP.

and the barely minimum wages they pay, no matter how many millions disney makes in a day.

yep, real stand up employee services right there.

The service cards go on their record though. They may be dorky, but if a certain cast member is getting multiple good reviews it goes a long way. Managers notice that, and more apt to remember certain cast members that way. Its good for a promotion way on down the road, or at least a good recommendation.

As far as treating their employee's well, most of what you guys are mentioning are CP problems. People would not be begging to work for this company if they were not being treated well. Yes they most positions get paid minimum wage, but honestly what theme park doesn't pay minimum wage first starting out. HELL, what company doesn't pay minimum wage when you first join as your first job. & It depends on your position. Most employees I speak to love their jobs and are not complaining. If you look at the college board people are "obsessing" over getting the internship. Disney is a great company who knows how to manage employees and keep them happy. It would not be functional without that.

Seriously you guys get a grip on yourselves. This is a wdw disscusion boards stop bashing people. What is the big deal about giving out personalized cards that says thanks? I have my name on them becase when they look at them it makes them smile and they made a persons day. Jeez! didnt know it was going to cause drama!

I have never done anything like that but I always give a thank you with a smile.

And for the other subject. I haven't been on the DIS in a while but I see that the same people are starting fights.

I believe Disney does treat their CS and CP cast members fairly. They may work ridiculous hours and for minimum wage, but if you actually look at the site and see the perks it would change your mind. Yes Disney is a business, probably one of the biggest(I am not completely sure, so do not try and start something with me). They are also given apartments that are actually live-able. I have seen so many dorms for college that are disgusting and these dorms you pay a huge sum of money for.

And working for the Disney company is so much different then working for a place like Walmart. In Disney, the place is actually clean and neat, Walmart is the complete opposite. If you can't tell the difference between the two then get your eyes checked. So what if their employees are called Cast Members, these people enjoy their job and make people happy unlike the people that probably dropped out of High School at a Walmart or a McDonalds; who try and outsmart you but they aren't mentally capable. And they are GUESTS, because every theme park/amusement park call you that. As I remember people do not live, permanently, in the parks or in the hotels. So yes they are guests. Only if they browse or buy something from a store are they customers.

Oh boy looks like your are clearly misinformed

First off Disney does not take 75% of the CP & CS earnings away.If your referring to the housing that costs $77 a week and from what I've heard the CP & CS participants can make about $400 a week. After looking at housing in Orlando I can so that the $77 a week is really good deal.

Secondly the hiring freeze is over.Disney is hiring both FT and seasonal CM's off the street.Thoguh they tend to hire people that have worked with them in the past

Thirdly the CP & CS participants are college kids or just got out of high school all your going to make anywhere is minimum wage. Now for full time employees you get paid a few dollars more to $15 more depending on the job.Full time CM's also get an annual increase in pay.

In conclusion please don't talk about stuff you clearly do not know about.

Nah, I think we're just the two people who realize there is a real world out there. Call me cynical, call me financially adept, the fact still remains that Disney still relies on money. Walt was a business man first and foremost, not a magician focusing on bringing happiness to children. Why in the hell do people think ticket prices are going up? With the economy tanking, Disney needs to make a profit! People don't actually think that money is going to a new attraction, do they? :rotfl:

Actually when Walt first opened the parks they were free. You paid about 5 cents per ride.So he cared about the people more then money.

Also the money is going to new attractions.MK is getting a complete overhaul starting with Fantasyland and a few rides in other parks are getting changed as well

^^Also building off of that, Walt had the dream and Roy was the business man. Walt would have made everything free if he could have so everybody could enjoy. Roy is the one who made a budget, and the prices to make Walt's dream a reality.
