On Friday we were at Castaway and had a fantastic conversation with a cast member who lives on the island. We spoke about what it's like to live there and pros and cons. To me it appears to be a dream. :). Anyone ever see their actual accomodations? I should have asked him but it was the end is the day. Just curious. When we left I was surprised to see a number of people who were middle aged waving goodbye from the dock. For some reason I assumed it was mostly college aged kids living there but obviously that's not the case.

I've had the opportunity to see another cruise line's island facility. They were spartan accommodations at best. Living and working situation is not the best but its a choice they make. I personally would hate to work under those contracts. I also think many times we look at their situation thru our vacation rose tinted sunglasses. Keep in mind the goal of DCL, and all companies, is to turn a profit; period. Spending money on facilities and other things that are not revenue producing is not in the plans.

I had heard few do live on the island and others are boated in on ship days. Also most are Bahamian citizens.

I was told 95 live on the island and the others on an island about 9 miles away (it was a mother/daughter, with the daughter a CC resident and the mother only coming on Ship days.

I've heard there are a lot of bugs there at night.

Talked to the man working at the post office on CC last week, and he said that other than the island caretakers the remainder were brought over by a ferry each morning there is a ship in port and returned by ferry after the ship leaves. He said they are from the island of Abaco, which is about 8 miles from CC.

Talked to the husband/wife caretaker team on NCL's island of Great Stirrup Cay, they said that they have satellite internet, a cell phone (not sure what company) and for grocery shopping they just email the list to corporate and the groceries are brought by one of the ships during the week. They also said that they have their own vacations at the other cruise line islands a few days a week, they just make their own schedules and they will all waverunner or boat to one of the other islands for a few hours.
I would love to do this as a matter of fact.

No, but I would love to see what it looks like

Honestly I wouldn't have minded doing this type of thing in college, but now now. Wish I knew about DCL back then (my career focus was intense in a different way)....woulda loved a kids club job or character handling.

Considering some of the overnight summer day camps I work as a college students - I wish I could've given this a try!!

I remember reading that due to bugs they are inside pretty much anytime the sun is down?

Thank you so much everyone!!! I am now following Casey the cat and excited to get a little dosage of Castaway every so often!
