Are cast lanyard pins valuable, or are they like the DS $4 pins, not really worth much? On another board, someone involved in Secret Santa pin swap implied that they're not worth much, like the $4 ones. Well, I always thought they were very valuable, since you can't buy them, and in a recent trip to WDW I only saw a few. I proudly sent a lanyard pin to my SS recipient, because she both had and wanted quite a few lanyard pins, and although I couldn't get what she wanted, I hoped she could trade this for one she wanted. Now that I've read that other post, though, I feel I may have insulted her, and I'm so embarrassed at my ignorance, I don't think I want to trade again until I'm more knowledgeable on "good" trades.

I think it's one of those things that is in the eye of the beholder. Some foks consider them of no value because they are traded for, not purchased. It may be because you can trade a $4 pin to get one of the lanyard pins. I think the idea that you cannot buy them off the rack makes them more special.

Check on e*** and you'll be surprised of the value. Several routinely go over $10, many go for $15 - $20.

If your SS 1) had them and 2) wanted them, they are obviously valuable to him/her.

If your person had the pin you sent them on their wants list, then clearly they wanted it!!

I think I'm the person you're referring to, who posted a question about the "value" of a lanyard pin a while back, but only for Secret Santa reasons since Dizpins gave us a dollar limit. A friend had asked me a couple of weeks ago how to value one because she was wondering what to send to her Secret Santa, and at the time I told her probably about $2-$3 (the Dizpins Secret Santa (not Peggie's) has an assigned dollar value...you're supposed to spend between ten and fifteen dollars). But then I posted a question about that on the boards and people had different opinions on it. I can't remember the range, but I think people said anywhere from $3 to $10! Most people I know, though, seem to trade lanyard for lanyard, so I'm not sure what happens if you have a "hot" lanyard pin that is worth more, and I'm not even sure what those "hot" ones are....except for some of the train car pins!

Okay, so I haven't answered your question, but stop kicking yourself. I read (and responded to) that post on the Dizpins boards, but it sounds like the pin that kid got was not on his wants list and was instead on his trades list.

I consider the lanyard pins of the same value as a rack pin when it comes to trade (generally). What's a rack pin worth? With the way Disney is going, anywhere from 4.00 to 12.50. So it depends on what YOU think the pin is worth. Sometimes it helps to factor in tradability based on what's on pinpics (want/trading).

Simba's Mom, this is the season of giving. Hopefully the person you sent the lanyard pin to will appreciate the pin in the spirit in which it was given. If not, so be it & the person can trade it away :).

Last May I found a lanyard pin that one of my "regular" pin trading friends really wanted. I could have taken or left the pin, but the other person collects this particular character. I received a very low LE DL holiday pin of a character that meant something to me. I tried a few times to offer an additional pin, but the other person told me the lanyard pin was going for a lot on ebay. I don't frequent that site, so I had no idea. As long as we were comfortable with the trade, I finally figured out it was ok.

It just depends on the circumstances. In your case, you selected that pin from your traders with the person in mind. You did well! Don't let others make you feel bad.

I know many post that they will not trade over a $6-$10 in value for a lanyard pin. I won't trade a high value for a lanyard pin. But I know many who for the more HTF lanyard pins want a lot.
But I think it depends on the pin and if you want it, just like with most pins.
I read that thread too and think what seemed to be upsetting them was
1) It happened to their kid on their trade.
2) not just it being a lanyard pin, but it was one that was already listed to trade.
I think they were irked mostly by the way the person apparently didn't care if they wanted that pin or or not -- they just sent them a pin.

Some have great value. Check pinpics and you will see which are more wanted than others. Pooh on the Train and Donald USA seem to be the top ones now. Pooh just went for $60.00 on eBay and USA Donald is around $20.00.
