Cast iron frying pan and smooth top stoves

I know you are not supposed to use cast iron on smooth top stoves due to damage to the stove.

Does anyone know if they make a product to lay on the stove so that you can use cast iron. Maybe something like a pad that allows heat to coduct through it

Wow, this is news to me! We've used our cast iron skillet on our flat-top surface for years and never noticed any damage from it.

I'm curious to know the answer to this now that I know better.

Yep, sliding the pan can scratch the stovetop surface and dropping it is just instant death to a smoothtop surface.

But I think I just found my answer, a heat diffuser!!!!

We have used our cast iron pan on our smooth top for over 10 years now. No problem.

Wow!!! No problems. Well maybe I will give it a try. But I would be the one that would damage my cooktop!!!

We use enameled cast iron on our smooth top surface and love it. We had to hunt to find what we were looking for- enameled on the exterior but cast iron on the interior. I finally found a cheap and nice sized one at Aldi of all places! If you want it completely enameled you can find these at Target.
