Cast Compliment Useful?

Not sure if anyone has any advice. I’m at the parks now and tried to stop by guest services to leave some cast compliments. I was told they’re only taking them via the app. So I tried that - but the app cast compliment seems so vague to me! You select some options from a pre-selected menu of why you’re complimenting someone, and then just enter a name and place, both of which are optional. There’s no space to write anything about the CM or what they did.

My question is - does this actually help the CM? Get them recognition from their supervisors or anything? Just seems so vague and impersonal to me. Anything else I can do to recognize the amazing CMs?

CM Compliments do help the CM! The supervisor will see the compliment, which goes in the CM's file. If you want to leave more specific details about what happened, you can use the Contact Us link at the bottom of the DLR webpage. The email form there has a place for you to write in what you want to say.

Yes they really do help the CM! I was a WDW CM, but they were a big deal. Management prints them and hangs them up backstage (at least in our department) and they are linked to the employee file. I have a cork board in my office at home that holds my cast compliment print-outs. They mean more to me than anything else I got from work. I’ve received both generic and detailed cast compliments and all are so special because someone took the time to leave it.

MM, while you're sending comments via the DLR website, you could mention how frustrating and limiting the app is. I am surprised the app doesn't have a free-text field for further comments.

I sent in about 10 cast compliments while we were visiting last week/earlier this week. So handy, because it was such a hassle to stop by one of the guest services booths previously so we rarely did. Any interaction that went above, I immediately pulled out my phone and wrote it so I wouldn't forget later. I love being able to do this, because I feel I'm part of giving back the magic!

It wasn't hard to find CMs that deserved the compliment. So many we interacted with were fantastic!

Over my two plus decades at WDW, having compliments on my record may or may not have made a difference whenever I applied for a new roll. If it did I wasn't told that it had been a factor. AFAIK I got the rolls for other reasons. However, I appreciated the compliments immensely and enjoyed getting them. IMO, those are the main reasons for giving Magical CMs a shout out.

Back in March before Villain's Nite I ran into an amazing CM in the Sorcerer's Workshop and we started chatting about how I am doing this trip to remember my late mom. The CM made me a button "Celebrating Mom" which I cherish.
I sent a lengthy email and while it took almost 4 months to get one back , I was happy to see it was received.

Just a few weeks ago after months of checking for this CM every trip , I found him ! He told me that his manager handed the cast compliment to him personally and that knowing he made such magic for me is truly why he loves being there.
I truly felt like we made a difference in each other's lives.
