Casinos in St. Maarten question

Has anyone gone to a casino while in the port of St. Maarten? How far from the ship do you have to travel? Do you know the approximate travel time and cab fare?

There are a few near the ship where the water taxis drop you off. They're small and aren't very fancy, comparable to some of the downtown las vegas casinos. The staff seemed friendly and we even won a few $$$.

We stopped in at one of the casinos on St. Martin last week. It was very small, and nothing fancy. They had most of the games there, but maintenance was an issue (the slot I played had a broken reel, so I couldn't tell if I won or not).

We lost our $20.00 and then left!

My husband gambled there and he won $170! It was right in the shopping area. He played while my daughter was getting her hair braided.

Thanks for the info. Would I be correct in assuming that taxis aren't even necessary to get to a casino?

Just a short walk from the ship to get there.

We had the misfortune to get suckered into an island time-share talk that was misrepresented as a tour to the old fort. Thanks to some quick thinking (me!) and some excellent acting (my DS-6yr old played sick) -DH and I got away before they wasted anymore of our time!

It's better to take a taxi or water taxi but you don't have to...it just really hot and better to save your strength...the town is fun to check out.

We're thinking of taking the see & sea excursion on St Marten. Is there a small casino within that shopping vicinity?

No. The shopping stop is in Marigot, on the French side. The casinos are on the Dutch side only.
