Casino on new ships?

I am sure she is a sweet and lovely women! You double the capacity on the ship and she will be the exception to the rule. Spice up the Bingo games on the ship a bit keep the slots in Vegas and Atlantic City!

I do not drink or smoke either, and hate to be around smoking, but are you saying that everyone that gambles also smokes and gets drunk?
My mother-who is 76-loves slot machines, and has never smoked, does not drink, but at night would enjoy going to play the slots-on DCL the late evening entertainment does not exist. Why is eveyone so judgemental? I doubt DCL will draw people that cruise just to drink or gamble, but the casino would offer some other form of entertainment-we have been to family resorts that have a slots only casino and have not seen people going crazy because of their loss.

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 exactly:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Dead on about the lack of late evening entertainment. With late seating shows BEFORE dinner, walking around the ship after late seating dinner (about 10:30 pm) was almost like a ghost town. Exceptions of course would be the night of the Golden Mickey's when they have an encore showing at 10:30 pm, or on our New Years cruise, although all the partiers disappeared about 12:10 am when we were just getting warmed up!!

Never been to Disney World, do they serve alcohol anywhere other than the hotels there? I was a bit controversial out west when California Adventure opened in 2001 and they not only had a winery, but sold beer inside the park.

Was not aware that boundaries, standards and an opinion made me and some of other community members judgemental! Thank Goodness we are in America and on a Disboard where ALL are welcome!:thumbsup2

I hope they don't put casinos in the new ships.

If I want to go on a ship with a casino, I'll pay much, much less and go on a Carnival Cruise.

I pay more for Disney because I love the family-oriented feeling on the ships. To me, "casino" and "Disney" don't belong together.

They serve alcohol at all parks except the Magic Kingdom. EPCOT serves just about everything from Margarita's to Wine.

why are people so opposed to the casino? I am not a gambler, but have spent a few dollars on slots on other cruise lines. I did not notice a bad atmosphere around the casino. Just because it is a family cruise does not mean people spend every second with their kids--some people have their children in the clubs all day-even for meals.

I guess I just don;t get it-why are bars okay, but a casino is seen as such a bad thing--I suppose I'll get some negative posts for asking, but if that is what makes DCL way more money, I'd rather see the casino.
I am not that opposed to it, just dont care for it, but it is a free country,I would not go so being a bit selfish as I dont want it to take up room on the ship.
I am alott like the old Adam Ant son from the 80's "Dont Drink Don't Smoke what do ya do?" I Disney that's what I do:cool1: I don't gamble either and have NO desire to do the Vegas thing. Disney is the perfect solution for my husband and I. I could care less if you have drinks at dinner and want to go to a designated area and have a smoke but I don't want you sloppy drunk and angry because you just lost your butt playing poker.

I am highly allergic to smoke and when they walked us through the Atlantis casino I was not in there 2 minutes with the stale smoke and was already reaching for some benadryl!

I went on one carnival ship "The Triumph" it was a 5 year old ship that looked 15 and I swore off cruises after that. We took a chance with Disney and they "converted us" back from the dark side!:) Casino' add a very undesirable element.

Long Live DCL without Casinos:thumbsup2
To be fair not everybody gets angry when they loose, in fact my dd expects to loose and still enjoys it, everybody to themselves.

As for the casino, I really hope they don't put one on the new ships. We are not gamblers, so it is not a draw for us to cruise just because there is a casino on board. To me, Disney means family. And a casino is not family oriented. Will I not cruise Disney if they put a casino on board? No. I love the Disney Ships, the staff, the atmosphere, etc. We have cruised only one other cruise line, Carnival, and was not impressed. They had a casino but we just walked through it. So, if we do get a vote for a casino, my vote is NO.

I don't have a strong opinion either way. If they had a Casino, I would enjoy it. If not, I do hope they offer more evening entertainment. My kids like to stay in the clubs until midnight. My DH and I have trouble finding things to do. It's basically the hot tub or Cove Cafe (or the rare trivia offering). We're not nightclub people and we aren't drinkers.

I do have to laugh at people that say it will ruin the atmospehere....especially people that have never been on another cruise line. We've taken the kids on 3 cruises on other lines with casinos. The kids have never stepped foot in a casino. You don't need to walk through one to get anywhere. As a matter of fact, they're fairly tucked away (especially on the 2 Royal cruises we've been on). I'm not even sure the kids noticed them. Plus, Disney manages to keep the family environment despite having Many bars onboard. I'm sure they'd find a way to keep a casino tucked away in an adult section if they decided to put one on the new ships.

Ok so I know I am new to this but what does winning or loosing have to with this thread?

We are all expressing opinion right? I mean we are allowed to disagree right?

Winning and loosing? What?:confused3

Same here. I've been on Princess ship where they have casinos and for the fun of it, I've played the slots for $10 (that I knew I would lose.) I can take or leave the casinos but it wouldn't bother me if there was one on the ship. The casinos were not in a place where I had to walk through them to get to other parts of the ship, either.

From Tom McAlpin, prior President of DCL, the new ships will definetely not have a casino. This was asked by another cruiser during a Castaway Club meeting on the first Mediterranean cruise in 2007, which Mr. McAlpin was on. Obviously I don't know if anything has changed in the past 2 years, but at that time, it was a definite no.

Its highly doubtful DCL has changed its stance on that aspect of the ship building. DCL is designed for families and I cant see how that would promote a "family atmosphere"

I hope DCL NEVER puts a casino on their ships.

There has been this question several times and I think overall Disney will not do that. Disney wants to be family friendly and to take up space for slot machines and such, I don't think they would do that,I think they would add an ice rink or more types of sports and family fun!:goodvibes

Lets face it ships with Casinos are a dime a dozen and Disney isn't not that.;)

I watched a special on the DCL on travel channel last month and they did mention that casinos were not something DCL was interested in pursuing. It gave a few sentence explanation, but basically wasn't something they were at this time considering.

My vote is no for casinos. Not that I am against them, it is just not what I look for on a Disney cruise. As stated previously in this thread, if they did have casinos on the new ships, I would hope that it is not something you have to walk through to get to another part of the ship.

My reason for asking this question is because I would like to take my wife and do the TransAtlantic cruise. If I am at sea for 7 days I would like the entertainment of a casino. I enjoy the Disney cruises so I wanted to find out if this was an option. After reading some posts I am a little surprized maybe I am in the minority but some of my fondest memories growing up involved playing cards with my Dad and Grandma. And yes we played for money! 2cent antee poker and as I became an adult we went to casinos from time to time, lost money and enjoyed the time together. Winning was fun but didn't happen very often, but if you bring what you can afford to lose you can just chalk it up to a fun night of entertainment.

At least it wasnt for clothing:rotfl:

Space is limited on a ship, so if a casino is in, something else is out.

I would rather see the space used for children or family activities. Maybe even teen activities, though that is really hard to do well (laser tag anyone?)

My wife and I are adult cruisers and one of the things we like about the Disney cruises is that the kids are not bored and whining. This makes things more pleasant for everyone.
