Casino calling

Can anyone clue me in on why a casino would be calling? The person here tha the message was left for ran to the phone and deleted the call back number. Do you think they wrote a check that bounced? What else could it be?

Considering they ran to the phone to delete the message, I would guess it's not for a job offer!

More than likely it's them trying to collect a debt.

I wouldn't imagine it is to collect a debt they are a casino not a bookie. Everything (that I know of) that you do at a casino is paid for upfront.

Around here depending on how much you gamble they will call you to offer free hotel nights, buffet dinners, show tickets, etc, etc. Is the person a big gambler?

Why not just ask the person if they live with you. I mean you are close enough to live with them but not ask them why they are calling them?

I would doubt that it's a bounced check only because most casinos use a check processing company (like Telecheck or Certegy) for checks. If the check bounces, the processing company would be the one looking for the money not the casino because they have already been paid.

It could be that they were calling about a promo that they were offering or even that a drivers license was left behind. Seeing that the person deleted the number, it sounds like the person didn't want anyone to know that they were at a casino.

If it was to collect a debt, the person calling must disclose that they are calling in an attempt to collect a debt.

You're right. I can't believe that I forgot about "markers". A casino would handle that in-house. I was thinking traditional checks.

I know that a local casino here recently changed their policy about markers. There was a big write up about it because many customers were mad about it. It used to be that you had 30 days to pay off a marker. The problem that they had was that people would take out a marker and then 29 days take out a second marker. They would use the money from the second marker to pay off the first one. Basically, they were trying to float the money and extend the 30 day pay off time. The policy now is that the last marker taken out, it the first one to be paid off. They will withdraw the money from your bank account 30 days after the marker is taken if it's not paid off.

Is it a casino that is also a hotel? Maybe they booked a suprise getaway for you and didn't want you to find out, so they quickly deleted it.

I did, and they said they had no idea why they would call. But if a casino called and left you a number to call back, wouldn't you want to? If you really had no idea why they called?

The person was my father, and he is known for being irresponsible with his and my mom's money. Which is why I have jumped to a not so good conclusion.

I'd be suspicious too. Mom needs to call the casino if Dad won't. Much better to put a little money in an envelope every month and send it to the casino than have the police knocking on your door.

The casino won't be able to give Mom any information about why they called Dad.

Here, most of the casinos will not page people by full name (like to have Johnny meet Suzi at the buffet) because of privacy.

Call the phone company to find out how it is done. I think there is a 2 digit number to dial to get a list of incoming phone numbers.
