Cash vs points at Poly DVC & extra adult fee

We (family 4) have a deluxe studio villa booked with cash over NYE. I saw on another thread that DVC rooms are not charged an extra fee/per adult, but is this only true when the room is booked with points and not cash? When I called to possibly add another adult to our room (holds 5) I was told it would be $35/per night extra.

Thank you. Next time, I guess I will try booking through a points company.

do your research thoroughly. Points bookings are different beasts than cash bookings.

When I’ve stayed in a cash booked 1 bedroom at RIV a couple times in the last couple years we were not charged additional per person fees, maybe something changed in the last two years. The tell will be if the price actually changes on your confirmation. Disney phone CMs are not known for being completely accurate so there’s a tiny chance it’s bad info.

Similar to hotel side suites, cash bookings of villa accommodations above the studio size range (key detail in this discussion) don’t pay the extra adult fees. FYI.
Ah, so studios (which are essentially hotel rooms) DO pay for extra adults, whereas 1-2-3br villas do not? Thanks, good to know.

Yep, that is correct.

This comes up so infrequently I usually have to go test it just to make sure I’m remembering it correctly myself. 😂
We've been DVC members for over 20 years, and I never knew this. So if a married couple brings one of their relatives, and stays in a studio which is advertised to sleep 5, they pay for the extra adult?
I'll admit that I, personally, can't imagine that many people in a studio. We bought DVC specifically to spread out, but some people do put that # or more. I didn't know they paid extra.

For a cash reservation, yes, a studio villa reservation would be charged extra fees for anything over two adults. If staying on points, there is no extra adult fee.

For cash reservations Disney basically treats standard hotel rooms and studio villas the same - extra adult charges apply. Hotel suites and 1BR+ villas are also treated the same - no extra adult fee.

Thanks so much for clarifying this for me!

So we are seeing an extra adult fee on a points stay at RIV - adult son in deluxe studio. Will be talking to the front desk tomorrow. As they try to figure out why our dining plans will not work on our Magic bands - frustrating.
