We usually get most of our money for our trip in travelers checks. But I like to keep a small amount of cash with us as well. Does anyone else do both? What percentage of the amount that you bring do you keep cash and how much do you take in TC's?

We only bring cash and credit cards now that our bank doesn't sell travelers checks.

Plus we ran into a problem cashing them. Hardly anyone takes them anymore.

Do you mean cashing them when you got back home or in Disney? We've never run into a problem with them in Disney, but we haven't been there since winter '07...maybe something has changed?

I try not to use my debit/credit cards at ALL in the parks but I don't want to pack around hundreds of dollars in cash...:confused3

I know World of Disney and the Emporium took them but alot of the carts didn't accept them. We didn't try anywhere else.

I forgot to add, we didn't do the dining plan and I always carried 100.00 in cash each day. Sometimes it was all used, sometimes I had carryover for the next day. We'd pay cash for breakfast and lunch, food stuff at carts and souveniers. We'd charge supper to our room usually.

I do both - $100 in cash to start, then travelers checks in $50s. That way, you don't have to have dozens of lower-denomination travelers checks to deal with.

I know most people don't use travelers checks any more, but I just don't feel comfortable using my debit card, which I use at home all of the time. I use travelers checks, some cash, and have a credit card as a back-up. Unfortunately, we can't charge things to the room, since we stay at Shades of Green (which isn't an official WDW resort). I'd love to have that option!

We used to use traveler's cheques (that's how AmEx spells them!) all the time. Lately, we've just been relying on ATMs when necessary, and putting everything we can on credit cards.

I haven't used traveller cheques since my last trip to Europe in the early 90's. I use my Bank of America debit card to withdraw cash from a Bank of America ATM. Since it's a BofA ATM, there's no fee. I usually withdraw $100 as I need it. There's an ATM near the Downtown Disney hotels on Apopka-Vineland Road (Crossroads Shopping Center). We use this one when we are at WDW. When we are at Universal Studios, we use the BofA ATM on Sand Lake Road, just west of the I-Drive intersection. When I run out of cash, I'll use my Disney VISA credit card. And I never use my debit card for purchases when travelling. I only use it in a BofA ATM.

Are you staying on property? If so, just put the cash on your resort account when you check in and use your KTTW card to charge items in the park.

I'm a loan officer at a bank. We issue "Traveler's Cards" to our customers rather than traveler's checks. In addition we do not cash travelers checks for non customers. In the last few years, banks have had major problems with fraudulent traveler's checks. My advice would be to go to your local bank and ask about these cards. You can put a certain amount of money on your card and not worry about your identity being stolen from it. I wish I knew a little more about them, but that's not really my department!

I always take traveller cheques and only about $100 in cash. We were there in sept and neber had any problem using the cheques.
