Cash stay through MS

I saw while reading a waitlist thread that a member had paid cash for one night and was waitlisted for that night to come through on points. :confused3 Can that be done with MS so the reservation is connected? If so, it is without the DVC discount, correct?

I am reallly curious because DH and I would like to try a different resort on our next December trip and I know that is a busy time. Changing resorts isn't realistic for us with DD9 with autism. It takes too long to get her settled in and she would not do well with a change mid-stay.

TIA

Sure, you can do that. The cash nite may or may not be available with the discount, but there is no penalty for cancelling the cash reservationsfar enough ahead.

Doc, thank you so much. This is just more information to add to the many, many things I have learned on this board. And it is a great relief to us as we really wanted to try someplace different for a change of scenery, but were afraid of a split stay.

If you make the cash reservation through CRO, you do lose the flexibility of DVC. They can't be linked, but both reservations need to have the other reservation noted on it.

If point stays are not available, then cash nights should also not be available through MS.

Now this is what I thought and why I asked the question initially. As I stated in my original post, I saw a thread where a member said they had a cash night and were waitlisting for a points night. I thought MS only did cash nights on a discounted basis and they were supposed to represent nights which would not be rented on points by other members.

Changing resorts mid-stay is not feasible for us and I was already planning for our trip next year during the busy December season. I saw all of the December waitlist posts and I wasn't sure how successful everyone has been.

I had a cash ressie with Member discount for a Sat. night in Oct of this year. My waitlist for a Boardwalk view room came through and we are now using points for that night. So it does happen . . .

DVD owns 4% of the rooms for cash rooms, refurbs, etc. Just because MS doesnt have rooms on points has nothing to do with discount or no discount rooms being available for cash. If you cant get a room on points you can ask MS if you can pay cash for a room and if so, is a discount available on the cash room. You can book a room on cash, you will need a CC, but your CC doesnt get charged until you arrive. You also have to pay taxes on the cash room. You have up to 5 days to your arrival to cancel the cash room without any pentalies. If you have a room booked on points and you are paying cash for one or more nights MS will try to link the ressies together so you dont have to move but not guarrantee. You also have to be staying in the villas for this to happen. You can not stay on points at the BCV and a cash night thru CRO at the BC to have the ressies link so you dont have to move.

Available rooms on points has nothing to do with the available rooms on cash. :thumbsup2

I thought that the nights member services had available for cash reservations came from the points inventory. That's why member housekeeping rules apply. So the question is does member services have access to developer inventory or points from tradeouts.

I doubt they have access to developer inventory though DVD could give them access if they wanted. Most of these cash nights do come from member cash equivalent exchanges such as DCL.

What exactly is the cash discount for DVC? I know that I saw somewhere in this pile of papers I just received that there was a discount for rooms, but I have yet to find it again! :confused3
Thanks

The DVC discount is 25% off the rack rate for the room. The discounted reservations come from member inventory and only when they feel the night won't be reserved using points. Cash reservations (without the discount) may be reserved thru MS and those reservations will not have daily housekeeping, but will be directly linked to point reservations- unlike cash reservations thru CRO. We have had several occasions where the discount was not available when we first reserved- so we went ahead and made the cash reservation anyway (and linked it to our point reservation)- the discount was still applied a few months later when it did become available. We were pleasantly surprised- since we had not called back to inquire about the discount, it was automatically applied to the cash night we had already reserved. We had always gotten the discount applied for cash nights (they have always been weekend nights).

As far as I know, cash nights reserved thru MS- without the discount - can come from the CRO inventory (but will NOT have daily housekeeping). My understanding is that the member discount is available ONLY from the member inventory. The CRO invenotry is mainly composed of villas made available when members use points for non-DVC options like DCL and stays at other WDW/DL resorts.

I was offered a SV Studio at BWV on cash for a Fri and Sat night in Oct with a Member's Doscount. It didn't help me becuase we have a BW view reserved with points the other nights. By the way, the price is the same for SV as for PV with cash (assuming the Member discount is available for both).

I was looking to reserve a SV with cash for next April but was told that at this time they only have PV.

I just booked a studio for 12/27/06 for cash with the 25% member discount through MS (actually they asked me if I wanted to do that and I had no idea I could). They still have me waitlisted for 12/27 to use points if they become available and to auto confirm the 27th and cancel the cash reservation. I was told to double check before we leave and that the cash ressie would have to be cancelled 6 days before the first day of the reservations (12/24) and they were linked all together.

I really don't know exactly where the rooms come from but I definitely received the cash discount from MS when points were not available. In May I called for our 12/1-12/5 trip. I booked 12/1-12/3 on points but point rooms were not available for 12/3-12/5. I was able to book a discounted room (25% off) for those nights and waitlisted. It seems to me that this means the discounted rooms do not come from the same inventory. Does anyone really know for sure? But to answer the OP question, the nights had different confirm numbers but were linked so we would not have to change rooms.

Thank you. That was exactly what I was hoping to do.

We have had reservations made with pts through MS linked to reservations made through CRO paying cash. MS was not able to link the reservations but the resort was. All we have ever had to do is give our confirmation # for the pts part of the stay to the resort and the reservations were linked and we did not have to change villas.
I did not realize that a members discount was not always available through MS. We have always been offered the discount, so just assumed it was a given.
We have found though, that many times we can get a better discount as AP holders for the cash portion of the trip through CRO vs the members discount through MS.
