Cash rooms to Points rooms?

I know this has been answered before, and it's probably in my materials that are packed away right now, I just haven't been able to research the answer.

Does anyone know, if the rooms that are available for cash at Old Key West during my travel dates don't get booked for cash, will any of them become available for DVC points? I have 2 studios booked, but need 1 more for our Oct. trip. I was told they have rooms available for cash during those nights, but not for points. I know there are several reasons for this, but just want to know if they might release cash rooms to us DVCer's. Thank you.

Normally, only unreserved points rooms turned over to CRO at the 60 day mark can be reclaimed for members to use on points, if they haven't already been reserved for cash. This is "breakage inventory." The other reasons for CRO turnovers (points owned by DVC/Disney, member trades to the Disney collection) can not be used by DVCers for point stays. I would say your chances are very low of reclaiming a cash reservation, but go on a waitlist in case someone cancels.

It's not likely since the vast majority of cash rooms come from points already used by DVC members for non-DVC options like the Disney Cruise, Concierge Collection and other Disney Collection options. Those points need to be converted into cash to "reimburse" the cost of the other reservations. Basically, they have already been reserved using points and CRO is now trying to rent them for the member who used them.

60 days before any given date, any DVC villas not reserved using points is also turned over to CRO for cash reservations - income from this inventory is used to reduce our annual dues as "breakage" income. If any of those rooms have not been rented when you call for a reservation (within 60 days) they can be pulled back into Member Inventory for a points reservation.

I hope you are on the waitlist since that may be your best hope.
