cash ressie

I wanted to make a cash ressie (hopefully with the DVC discount) for a 2 bdr for Sept 30, 2005. MS told me that a cash ressie wasn't available and didn't know if or when it might be so I booked it using points. She was able to see that a cash ressie was booked for Sept 24 and that I should keep calling to check. I am making this day by day so I will keep asking when I call.
Can anyone help me with this? I've read lots of threads about cash and point reservations. Was she referring to the DVC discount? Is that not always available? How far in advance were you able to book it? The people going with us are paying for that night and I would like to let them know as soon as possible what it will be costing them.

Rooms are only made available at the cash discount rate when DVC's booking trends predict that they will not be able to rent out all of the rooms to members using points. One can logically assume that weekends are easier to get the cash discount due to the higher point costs. The 9/24 date you mentioned is a Friday, so it makes some sense that a room would be made available at a cash discount.

The night you are targeting appears to be a Thursday. But, since it IS September, I'd say your odds are pretty good of getting a room at the cash discount.

I've read here that you can book a room at the Rack Rate through DVC and the 25% discount will be automatically applied when/if it is offered. You might want to confirm that with MS. Otherwise you could spend the next few months calling to see if the discount is offered, and hoping that you get a room before they are all taken.

In addition, the member discount is available only to DVC members - it is one of the perks not offered to guests. If you won't be staying in that room, you may not be able to get the discount even if it is available.

You may be able to get a cash reservation with an AP discount for your friends (and that discount may be a better deal than the DVC discount).

Actually, the date is a Friday. That's why I was hoping that the discount may be available.
I am the DVC member and will be there with my guests. We will all be there for a wedding and I asked them to stay with DH and I for the week. They offered to pay so I wouldn't have to use so many points.
