Cash ressie w/DVC discount vs. using points

We are relatively new DVC members, and I'd like some info on the discount that might be available for cash ressies. If we wanted to make ressies at...say...AKL, would paying cash with discount be less expensive than just using points for the stay?

Is there some literature anywhere that spells any of this out for me?

You can only make cash ressies with the 25% DVC discount at one of the DVC properties such as BCV, BWV, VWL, SSR, or OKW. You do not get 25% off at AKL or one of the other hotels. The reason people sometimes make cash ressies (like myself) is during the weekend to save points (or if you don't have enough points.) You can book any of the other hotels through regular Disney Reservations and if you have an AP, there is often a good discounted rate.
I'm new to this too, but I just made a cash reservation and was told DVC can only book cash ressies at DVC properties...and that means studios or villas, not even regular BC or BW hotel rooms.

But with DVC you can purchase an AP for $100 off the purchase price, and use that to make ressies at a non-DVC resort. Last summer you could book a standard room at AKL for $125 per night, and at Christmas you cook book a standard room at BC for $199(if you began your stay before 12/25), so an AP is definitely worth it.

Ohhhhh....I see now! Thanks for clearing that up for me! I was under the (mistaken) impression the DVC discount was for all the resorts! Glad I asked!!
