We are out of points. Thinking of last minute trip in the next 6 weeks or so (before schools let out). Just for example, BLT has a 1 bed open to use points and also on the cash website. Unless I can find really cheap rental points, I think the 25% is a better discount. Do I just call member services and book? Do I "know" they will give me the discount or should I have a few back up plans just in case? What I mean is, is that 25% easy to come by or do they only offer it sparingly?

Sometimes the discount isn't available. So be prepared to pay the rack rate. If you have an AP, you might check out Disney Reservation Center to see if they have any DVC villas with the AP discount. You just call MS to book the cash nights through DVC. And your reservation will be treated like a DVC points reservation - same Trash/Towel/Cleaning schedule.

Interesting. I didn't know there was a DVC cash reservation w/ sometimes a discount through member services. The way I run through points I may need that option :)
Before I bought my first contract I stayed in a 1 br. DVC villa reserved through CRO w/ the then offered 30% discount which I booked via the WDW site. We got daily housekeeping for that cash reservation.

Not certain how many points are needed but don't forget the up to 24 points @ $15/pt you can get thru DVC during the 7 month window. And CRO availability does not guarantee DVC 25% discounted inventory - you'd just have to call and see if they can do the discounted member inventory or not.
