So I called to make a reservation today and was told that some of the days were unavailable but I could waitlist. I went ahead and did that and right before I hung up, I thought to ask if they had any of the nights available on Cash. I was put on hold for a moment and told that, indeed, those nights were available -- but only at the General Rack Rate.

I asked about DVC, AP, or Disney Visa discounts and was told that all of those discounted rooms were already taken; however, I could call CRO and see if they had something they could offer me. I was also told that if I took this route, it was likely that they would NOT be able to link the reservations as CRO does not have access to the DVC Inventory.

Does this all sound correct? Are there only certain rooms available at the discount rate through Member Services? :confused3

Yes, that is correct - just like other Disney "special" rates - there are a limited number available at any given time, and sometimes they are not available at all. I'm waiting to see if I can get a discounted cash reservation one of our Christmas days, but nothing is available as of now.

Can you trade a 'General Rate' for a 'Discounted Rate' cash night? IOW: Does it make sense to book the General Rate if available and then try for a discounted rate?

Does anyone know how much discounted the cash rates typically are? Do they compare to AP rates?

The DVC member discount is 25% off the rack rate - when available. Availability is based on times when MS determines a room won't be needed for a points reservation. This sometimes won't be until within 6 months.

If you reserve the rack rate villa thru MS, they will usually apply the discount when/if it becomes available.

We have done that a number of times and have always been pleasantly surprised to find that the discount has been applied without further contact on our part. The advantage of reserving cash nights thru MS is that they will link the cash and points reservations together so you won't need to move during the stay. If you get an AP or other discount thru CRO, it will not be linked to the DVC reservation unless the resort will do it at check-in.

Good luck! :)

To be clear, the discount is usually available based on the room not being needed for points, is the the correct understanding? I thought that cash rooms could not ever be used for points as they were out of a separate inventory? I have the cash nights now but am waitlisting it for points -- is the fact it was available for cash a 'good sign' for the waitlist? Or did I just effectively lock myself out of getting the waitlist by booking in cash? :confused3

My understanding is the full rack rate rooms are not from DVC Member inventory, even if booked through Member Services, simlar to CRO rooms.

If the member gets a discounted member cash room, it is because that room would probably be an unused point inventory room, which is why the discount is sometimes added at a later time.

Okay, I think I understand ... and to qualify as an unused point-inventory room, there can't be a waitlist for it? So if you get the discount on a room, it's because no one is waitlisting for it on points?

So a Full Rack Rate room would be CRO inventory, can never be used on points.

A Discounted Cash Room would be a room that someone specifically requests for Cash (perhaps Fri/Sat night?) and has no waitlist on points?

I have to wonder about DVC/cash DVC inventory.

I have a cash DVC ressie Oct 9th for 3 nights in a studio at BWV. Thurs Oct 9th was not available for points at time of booking. (I would have preferred to use my points on just the "cheap" thurs night of my ressie.)

This is a holiday weekend during F&W and MNNSHP. There is a waitlist for Oct 9th now....no studios available anywhere.

I don't think that DVC thought they couldn't rent those points 6 months from now. I was surprised actually that the cash ressie was available.

Not true....see my post above.

Yes...I have cash(MS discount) thurs, fri and sat. I am on a waitlist to use points for ONLY thurs night.....

But discounted Cash through MS? Or Rack Rate Cash?

This is confusing, because as per above, I understood you couldn't get discounted Cash on a room that was going to be used for points, and if it was going to be used for points, there should be no WL. :confused3

No....it dosen't show mine.
Kerri

Mine either. :(

The ressie is at BWV. It was after the 7mth mark. I believe....because I asked for thurs night on points and it was not available. I already had my ressie at WLV from my 11mth window.

It is a cash discount rate through MS. I paid....or will pay at check in...
277.50 plus tax per night.

I wish the cash ressies would show up on the website.

Don't know if this scenario can shed some light on the workings of things -

We wanted to add a night onto our upcoming trip first week of july so over past weekend we called but there was no availability at bwv so we asked MS about cash reservation & it was available with dvc discount (25% off). We booked that cash reservation and also were put on wait list for that same resort while on that same call with MS. MS did say if waitlist came through it would cancel out the discounted reservation.
On Monday after deciding it wouldn't be an issue to change resorts we called to ask if anything had become available at any of the other dvc resorts - there was, at ssr, so we decided to book that on points & we cancelled the discounted cash ressie BUT still are on wait list for bwv. If bwv waitlist comes through it will cancel ssr reservation for that night.

I was able to add two discounted cash ressies to our trip in July ....did this last week. :thumbsup2

Hmm ... well, so much for thinking that was the way it worked. :(

Me too! :(

We did a cash add-on for one night and had to pack and move for one night. What a pain.

Is this correct? I really hope so. I had called to find out if there are any discount cash rates recently and was told nothing at the moment. So they suggested booking the rack rate. When I asked if the discount becomes available, will they automatically apply it to my reservation, the answer was a flat "no". She said that I would have to call over and over again until I get a cash discount.

I hope you are correct and I was just misinformed by MS. Has anyone else had their cash (rack rate) reservations booked through MS automatically changed to the discounted rate without having to call them back to check?
