HI this is my first time posting. We are trying to plan a Disney Cruise for May 2003 and we have DVC members but do not have enough points for the cruise. Is it better to rent points or pay in cash? We will be needing at least 2 cabins possibly 3. We will be celebrating both parents 50th wedding anniversaries. Any information would be much appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to the boards!

We just returned from our first cruise. We asked ourselves just your question when we were planning it. In our case it made more sense to pay cash and save the points. The points needed for a cruise (or other WDW resort) are much higher than the points for staying at a DVC resort.

Of course there are a lot of variables -- how much money you can spend, how you normally use your points, etc. I'm sure you'll get lots of opinions and responses :)

I love DCL so I end up in this debate often. I've cruised on points twice, and yes cash is a better deal. I however chose to buy more points so that I could cruise every couple years and not worry about it. Rather than sinking the cash in one cruise, I sink the cash into more point and cruise for several years. In your case it's a hard call, you are celebrating a special occasion, needing more cabin space. As this may not re-occur, I would probably pay the cash as you will probably get a better deal.
