What's that about? Is that safe? Can anyone let me know what their experience with this has been? I am worried now!

Technically it's "safe," but be aware that you won't have any recourse if there is an issue later. This happened to us once...not with FL Tours, but with a towncar company in Chicago. They collected my money up front and then, as we were driving along, announced that they were picking up another party! I was NOT pleased, but we were already far from home so we were stuck. The other party was not ready, as they had requested the car an hour later!!! We literally were the last ones sprinting down the jetway and avoided missing our plane by the skin of our teeth. When I complained on the phone to the office, they pretty much said, "We have your money, so too darned bad." With a charge card, I would have been able to dispute it. Oh well, at least I didn't give the driver a tip...I think that's the ONLY time I've ever done that! But I couldn't believe he waited until we were on our way to tell me we had another stop.
Moral of the story: Only use cash with a company that you trust implicitly.
The good thing about DIS is that you can search for other people's experiences with FL Tours to make an informed choice.

Thanks Barb! I am hoping someone will post that they had a good experience. They are the sponsor of these boards so I am assuming they are safe but you are right about having no recourse.

We used FL Tours for our trip in July and they were FANTASTIC! Extremely professional and very prompt. I was also concerned about "cash only" but they were great! We paid for the round trip fare when we got to AKL and tipped our driver as well. He also was our driver when we left, and to his credit he overheard our conversation on the way to AKL that our sons best friend was joining us - he picked us up in a van! Said he thought we would be more comfortable! Didn't charge us extra! I will definately be using them again.

i have never used them but i heard enough bad experiences of others and that was enough for me not to consider them, but if a company does not take credit then i don't use them, if you pm me i will tell you what i have heard about the cash only thing, i will not post here because i am not sure how accurate or reliable the information is and it is just what i heard from others, i have no comment as i have not used them personally

We had an absolutely wonderful experience with Fl Tours! They are very prompt (early even) awesome service, clean cars, wonderful drivers! I can't say enough good things about them on our trip in April! DD loved our Driver Sonny and asks if he will be a our dirver when we return for Christmas 2005! Two Thumbs up from this family!

I had the same concerns when we used FL Tours last summer. But they will give you a receipt and will give you a follow-up reminder call at the resort the day before you get ready to return home. In fact, they we ready for us before we were ready for them. I would use them again.

My family and I used FL Tours this August. We had no problem paying them up front. We received a receipt saying they had our payment and we even changed our return flight home and they had no problem at all making a change for us. We also used the grocery stop and they were so patient waiting for us. I can't say enough good things about FL Tours.

This is not a cash issue, it is a customer service issue.

Perhaps the company in Chicago mentioned above has so much business it can afford to treat someone shabbily.

On the other hand, if the company is competing for business, word gets around. For several months after I saw the last negative incicent about it on this board, I "sorta" badmouthed (on this board) a rental car company that serves WDW guests.

The Chicago company mentioned made a second mistake, saying "it's too bad, we got your money". The right thing to do would have been to investigate the matter and cheerfully make an appropriate refund.

I think you hit the nail on the head about Chicago...it's either a matter of a lot of business or the fact that we have a lot of transient companies. There is no central place like DIS were you can complain and know that a large audience will be warned. In Orlando, when companies do things like that to customers, lots of potential customers are warned! That's a good thing for ground transportation consumers in the Disney area. :D
Meanwhile, in Chicago, we're learned to just drive to the airport.

if you are comfortable with paying cash upfront then i say follow your gut, everyone has a different perspective, some people have good experiences with the company and some have negative ones we will not all agree ever- if it works out then great, if not then you will learn from the mistake, we all have or will have to learn from our mistakes, just as we all have or will take risks that turn out great,
i would not use cash, however, if you were my friend, i would give my friend support in the decision, not judge or advise but support, follow what you feel would be best,
good luck

we used FL tours in Sept., they were great. We were picked up at the airport to the hotel, for a few days then hotel to disney cruise then cruise to airport, everything went very smooth. Cash was a concern for me too, but we did not pay until we reached our first destination, were given a receipt. I felt comfortable that's my opinion.

I would use FL tours again.:wave2:

I have just completed the online booking form asking FL to take us from the airport to Universal and pick up from POFQ. On the notes I asked them to add on a one way trip between Universal and WDW midway into our trip.

Do you think I should telephone just to confirm that everything will be OK, as I can't say exactly when we want then to pick us up from RPR to take us to WDW - I just stated approx 5pm and would ring them and let them know (basically when we have done in IOA that day). Also the full price hasn't been confirmed - thought they would e-mail me.

Also we are planning to visit the Disney Store at MCO on arrival to buy AP's for Disney, do you think we should let FL Tours know so that they aren't waiting too long for us? Don't know where the store is in the airport so unsure as to how long we'll be messing around in the airport building!

December trip and I think it will be a good experience.::yes:: :wave2:

We used FL Tours last week for our trip, and they were great! We paid our driver when we got to our resort, and she gave us a receipt that she signed and it also had our pickup information on it. I posted a fairly detailed review last night, if you'd want to read about the rest of their service. I didn't have a problem with the cash-only thing, and our return driver didn't even mention payment when he took us back to the airport.

Here's another thunbs up for FL Tours. We used them last month for the 1st time. We were given the receipt and received our confirmation call at the resort (I'd forgotten about it). I would definitely use them again. I was also a little leary about the cash thing, but the service was so great I have no qualms about using them again.
