It depends...if you are an AP holder, AP rates are often the least expensive available, but you'll need to wait about 3 to 4 months before arrival to book them through Disney Central Reservations. If you want to book a roo using the Members 25% discount (which isn;t always available) you can call DVC Memeber services. THe rooms use two different inventories, so CRO may have rooms, MS may not and vice-versa.

If you are looking for rack rate (full price) rooms, you could probably book at any time through the Disney website or CRO.

If you want to see rack rates for 2006 (or 2005, too), you can find them right here on the DIS:

WDW Rack Rates

Since you don't want to borrow your own points, have you considered renting points from another member on the rent/trade board? It' cheaper than paying cash, usually around $10.00 per point. Another member can transfer the points right into your account. Good luck with whatever you decide!

do ap rates ever cover dvc rooms?
They have been available in the past. Some have reported getting them this year - although I mostly remember reports of them being available at OKW & SSR. There seem to be less AP rooms available at the DVC resorts than there are AP rooms available for the other resorts, though.

This year, AP rates (in general) are not as generous or as plentiful as they have been in the past few years. Since tourism/travel/hotel rates in general are up - pretty much across the country, I look for the trend to continue. JMHO. YMMV.

Best wishes -

We faced this situation planning for our January trip. We are staying for 11 nights, only had enough points for 9 nights. We thought we would book the 2 weekend nights with the 25% dvc discount but nothing was available. Then we tried any two nights, still nothing available.

CRO had rooms but considering the risk of having to change rooms and the additional cost, we decided to rent points for our last two nights and have the reservation linked.

Now I have peace of mind, the bookings are complete and no calls to MS checking and re-checking.

if you were to rent from and paid the money to somebody you didn't know would it be risky.

Weekend nights are usually cheaper to pay cash rather than renting points. For example, an OKW 1 bedroom in May is 48 points, the 25% member discount is about $330 incl tax. I've done it the past 3 years for Friday and/or Saturday nights. It comes out to less than $7 per point.

pirate: Has anyone ever had the cash discount for weekends in July? Planning on going the middle of next July and would like to use cash for the Friday night stay using the DVC discount. If anyone has, how far out in advance can you book it using cash? ::MickeyMo
