Cash nights for weekend nights?

I have read on some threads that some owners pay cash with the 25% discount for weekend nights. I know that Fri and Sat nights are sometimes double the points. For those who do this, do you save your points for other trips or do you sell them to offset the cost of the cash nights? I also saw that someone was trying to get the discount for one night and couldn't for another night. Are there restrictions for the 25% discount?
Thanks for ALL opinions on this subject :goodvibes

We use our AP discount and stay at a differt resort.

I'm thinking of doing this for our November trip, but am nervous. Do you make your ressie for the cash night elsewhere far in advance to get the room, and call back when AP discounts are announced, hoping to get one applied? Or wait? We'll be pickingup our AP's when we go in three weeks, so this is something I don't know anything about yet...except what I've heard. I can't access any websites or get the emails until I get the passes in May.

(Technically I have them, but it's a long story and Disney is holding them in their system for us...)

I'd love to try the Wilderness Lodge for the night before our SSR stay if possible. Never been there before...

I recently booked at OKW for 10/22-10/28, using points for Sun-Thu nite and paying for the Friday nite. I got the DVC 25% discount on the cash night and was told that they were linking the reservations, so I would not have to switch rooms.

I do this all the time, and one other option is using your AP to reserve a room on the weekends, either DVC or regular rooms. Right now studios are $159, and $74 for some regular hotel rooms. Sometimes I just pay the cash, but I usually rent out the points to pay for the cash room. For a studio, I would only need to rent 16 points to pay for the studio, and then I would save the rest of my points for another trip. :woohoo:

I've done it twice with the member discount and once with the AP discount to extend my May OKW trip. I would do points Sunday to Thursday, then add either the Friday and/or Saturday before or after. I did it to extend my points rather than doing an add-on. An OKW 1 bedroom in May is 48 points, with the discount it was around $300 by paying cash.

For our upcoming trip, we booked our first night at BWV using the member discount, and the last Fri. and Sat. at the VWL with the discount. We had to do this b/c we just didn't have enough points for the whole trip! ;) Maybe it's time to add on!! :sunny:

The only bad part about it using the discount is that we have a boardwalk view for our stay at BWV, and you can't book a boardwalk view with the discount on cash ressie's....so they couldn't link the ressie. :sad2: So, that kinda stinks. We are hoping the nice CM that checks us in will maybe let us have the boardwalk view if it is available so we don't have to move...but we won't get our hopes up! :)

We've successfully gotten the 25% cash discount at the BWV twice -- both times for a 1BR. We also have the cash discount for VB this coming September in a 1BR. The first time we've used this discount we successfully with no issues linked it to a point reservation and aside from having the cash nights on our bill, you wouldn't know the difference.

Now, I can tell you that two of the times we've wanted BCV, but it wasn't available for discount.

Not to highjack or anything, but...
Are there separate discounts for DVC and for APs?
I was looking on the memeber site and couldn't find anything.
TIA

Yes.
You need to call DVC MS to ask for cash night rates.
To get the AP discounts you can either log on to disneyworld.com's AP portion to check out AP specials or call CRO and ask about AP rates.

I still haven't closed on my first contract and have ressies for this summer I also added a night ( 1st night ) for cash with discount my question is to all those who have used cash discount do you have to 1- check out/in or 2- move rooms? Thnaks for any input on this issue?

:)

We do this all the time....by switching from points to cash on weekends, we effectively double the amount of time we can spend at OKW

We've never had to check in and check out again. It was seamless. I think the only exception is if you were set on using points for a Boardwalk view and then had to check out of that room for a regular preferred view on cash.

Actually, MS can check out AP rates for you also! They just did it for me earlier this week.

We're doing this for our december trip. The CM at MS told me that she was linking the reservations so moving rooms won't be required but we will have to check-out and check back in. That won't be a problem but maybe it'll work out to be seamless as CRSNDSNY posted. When I first called to book mixing cash and points the CM I spoke with said you always have to change rooms doing it this way. After getting valuable information from all the great folks at Disboards I called back and talked to a different CM and was told the reservation can be linked together and no move will be necessary.

Thanks , when I talked to cm at ms she said she was linking the ressies but could not guarantee I wouldn't have to move . I didn't know if this was a formality or a warning we might be moving. I won't mind having to check out/in , I just dont want to switch rooms since we'll be moving resorts the day before. Thanks for everyone help

:)

We pay cash to conserve points so we can go back again!!!!

Actually, what we often do is stay at another resort (usually a moderate) for the weekend and then move to the DVC on Sunday or Monday night.
