I am budgeting $1000 for me and my son to spend on our trip and so far I have $500 in American bills, but am wondering if I should put the other $500 on my credit card to use down there? Usually when I go shopping in the states I only ever use cash, but because I have a larger amount to spend I don't know how I feel having that much money on me. Also do you think $1000 is enough for the two of us for food and souvenirs for a week. We'll only be in the park 5 days and technically one of those days is only half a day.

We took cash. Split it up among us for travel and left it in the safe taking only what we felt we would spend each day.

I think $1000 will be plenty for the 2 of you (depending on where you eat & how much of course!!). We spent just over $750 on food for 4 of us in February, we ate breakfast in our room (muffins/fruit etc) a late morning snack at a park and then an early supper at places like Raglan Road or POR mill.

do you have a u.s. credit card? if you do not it will cost you more to use your canadian cc as cc companys add 2.5 percent more than the days going rate for the conversion transaction and that's money you really don't need to spend.
if you travel a fair bit outside of Canada you may want to check out your options. I wouldn't be without mine but I travel lots.

I will stick to cash then. Didn't even think about it costing more for conversion. I usually go once or twice a year with my parents down to Montana to shop, so I should probably look into a US cc as once I'm done school, trips will become more frequent. I am a fan of cash just because I can physically see what I have left and is easier to budget.
