Did anyone hear what Jean Casarez said about the day Casey left the Anthony's home with Caylee and how she told George that they will be staying that night at the Nanny's house, she followed that up by saying that is proof of pre-meditation.

Very true. I'm just saying that I will not take anything the prosecution says at face value. If they have proof, they need to bring it. There is too much at stake here to take anything at face value.

A person above stated that she felt Casey was innocent until she heard the prosecution's opening statements. Now, she thinks she is guilty. While I understand that is easy to do, really you should not make a determination until you hear/see the evidence. Opening statements are not evidence.

If you are referring to me, I said I wanted to believe she was innocent, big difference. I never said I did.

Thanks for posting that. Interesting. I do find it interesting how much leeway prosecutors have. Since this whole thing broke almost three years ago, I've seen numerous cases involving people who have killed children in this area. For the most part, the reaction in the area has been minor. The prosecution has not gone for first degree murder in these cases. Some of them have been horrific cases. In one case, the parents starved the child to death. In another case, the guy set the child on fire. Yet, these cases were not first degree murder. I don't really understand the thinking of the prosecutors office. I wonder if a lot of it doesn't come down to money. It costs a lot more to prosecute a death penalty case.

In this case, Casey faces both a murder AND a manslaughter charge.

I am not sure how this legally works. But I am guessing it makes it easier that if there is not enough for murder, the manslaughter charge is there and they can go with that.

I have not read into other cases--but did a quick google before my internet went bonkers. In some cases they get a murder conviction and in some they don't. I don't understand the rhyme or reason to them.

But we don't try the population based on what other people do. Each case is tried invidivually and even though beating a child to a pulp seems much more heinous, it cannot and should not be used as a litmus to decide if Casey's alleged conduct is more or less worthy of a murder conviction.

In those other cases, I have to wonder if they also had someone much more experienced than Baez defending the clients.

Yes, heinous things are done to children. Rendering a child incapable of breathing air is very heinous. It isn't more or less heinous--it is just a different kind of heinous.

Thanks. I wonder if it is a state thing or has to do with the type of case. I served on criminal cases, but not a murder trial.

I am sure serving on murder case maybe very emotional at times. Hard to keep your emotions in check for some.

So that's kind of interesting...planning to stay away, for possibly the first time, and that's when everything seems to have happened.

FYI...The jurors have screens in front of them where the evidence is displayed? Like the two pictures of Caylee, side by side...one last known picture of her alive, one of her skull.

It is sad, and it I am sure it is so hard on the jurors to see them. They probably want to have a look on their face that they can not show.

Typically a person is charged with a number of degrees of charges, this way if the jury does not find for the highest amount they can be found guilty of lesser charges, it makes it so that it is not an all or nothing type of decision that has to be made.

I'm sure she did. She's the one on trial. She can see everything shown and hear everything that is said, as can her attorneys, of course.

Baez is just starting, but his voice doesn't sound strong to me.
