Caryn and Mark PJ- SBP/LSS/PI >>>>>>AND WE'RE OFF<<<<<<

sunshine1 posted her budget in her pj, her centerpeices were more expensive than mine...so that's a no go, i REALLY like the candy idea though and was thinking of renting glass lanterns from disney and having them put the candy in them for me. i thought about the martha stewart paper flower kits, but i'm worried that my clumsy self will set them on fire with the votives (this hopefully isn't a concern for anyone else), i'm also not sure as to how i'm going to get them there. i'm trying to avoid as many craft projects as possible while i'm there...

i would love to do snowglobes, i could give them out as table prizes so that i wouldn't have to take them home. that's an idea. would they charge me for using snow globes? even so it would be cheaper...

i really like my centerpieces though and know that i could easily make them myself with fake fruit and silks...

this was the original centerpeice inspiration...
Pear20centerpiece.jpg

but it will be lemons and the flowers will be tulips, gerber daisies, roses and white hydrangeas with the willow twigs...LOVE THEM, but not for 1750. if it costs more than my mortgage, it's a no go...

DECISIONS DECISIONS...thanks for the input ladies!

i might take you up on the sandcastle idea---jk, the dftw people just wouldn't get it...

those are so beautiful and unique. have the floral department try them. they can always cut down the size. they did that for the bouquets for me and i saved a good amount of money!!

Caryn where did you get the opal paper you used for your invites? Can you use it in a laser printer?

WOW!!! LOTS of responses to greet me this morning!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! i have come to two conclusions...below...

I LOVE LOVE LOVE  these veils. I'm doing a very retro 1940's hollywood glam theme and DF & Co. are doing a "mobster" look. I thought about doing a short net veil like this but I asked DF his opinion on veils and he scrunched up his face. So, one less thing for us to spend money on. But I LOOOOOOVE them and I will live vicariously through you! :thumbsup2

thanks! i LOVE the 40's! it was such a romantic, strong, feminine time in women's fashion!!!

caryn ... what if i made your center pieces? I can get lemons and what not and some silk flowers and make them up really nice! It could be your xmas present maybe?! Let me know if youd like that.

that's sooooo much work megs! we need a whopping 14 of them and that would be one more thing to drag all the way down there...

ooo i love the beaded bouts..great job:thumbsup2

thanks! they are still a work in progress!!!

Caryn, you've been productive today! I love the bouts... especially the one with the calla lilly! The place cards look great too, the one in the middle is my fav. How'd you do the numbers? Just glue and glitter? Or stencil?

Why dont you ask if you can make your own centerpieces and just pay for Disney Floral to set out votives or something.

Btw, I agree with your sister... yay for liquor as centerpieces!

the #'s are rubber stamps that i embossed!!! i didn't want to use mickey's...but the flowers i bought were too small, so i'm going to improvise with my mickey head cut out until i'm more inspired...

winebottletables.jpg

this is martha stewart fun...

Caryn,
You've been a busy bee today. I really like the beaded bouts. They are really creative. You could probably sneak a Mickey in there too...I always love the chance to sneak Mickey in my designs.

Looking good. I think if you can pull off the birdcage veil, you should wear it! It's definately not me, but I think it would be very chic on you!

i put teeny-tiny little swarowski crystals on the teeny-tiny ribbons that are going on the bout's, they have to be so small because my df said, "don't make them all girly, we're MEN." as if there was any question of that.

Hi there -
I've been lurking here for awhile and thought I'd take this opportunity to post.
First, I've read all your planning journal and enjoyed it very much. You have way more energy than should be allowed! j/k
Second, having been a wedding florist for almost 30 years, I feel that I can maybe speak a little to your cp dilemma.
The cps you picked are expensive for several reasons: First, you're using a rectangular vase. These and square vases are always more expensive than round because they aren't produced/sold in the mass quantities that round ones are. Your vase probably has a retail of roughly $40-50. Second, from the looks of it it's fairly sizable - which you would want for 10-toppers, but maybe too large for 6 or 8 toppers. Next, figure around 25-35% of the cost is design. More on bridal party work. (Heck, it's Disney - I'd figure the high side) Floral arranging is an art, just like photography--the people that do it are trained artists. Yes, grandpa Al could take your wedding pictures with his Polaroid, but would they actually be what you wanted? Same deal here. And if your flowers are ruined, it tends to show in the pictures, too.
The pittosporum in there isn't expensive, but you might try to replace the fillers with white wax flower for a similar look at less of a cost. Also consider that although lemons will be less expensive than the seckel pears that are pictured, you'll still likely have $20 worth of fruit in there. Just because they grow in Florida doesn't mean they're free! I certainly understand that $145 feels like a lot for a centerpiece - it is. But consider that more of the "prime rib" option. If your budget is feeling more "hamburger-ish", then go with hamburgers, Still tastes great, but a cheaper option. Look for things like carnations, alstroemeria, mums--there's some very cool mums out there now. These would all be less $ for you. I hope you work it all out, and keep in mind the one truly important thing: at the end of your wedding day, no matter what little bumps happen, you and your true love will be married. And that's really what it's all about, isn't it?
Best of luck to you.

tinklynn, your post has helped me more than you can know! i have a $210 rental fee for my vases...she did the flowers that she chose to match my bouquet, which is $350, but i'm ok with that since i plan on keeping it forever...you've helped me come to one of my possible solutions...

Dagnabbit! I looked through my huge stack o' wedding mags and couldn't find that article on cheap-o centerpieces. But I do have this pic of something we were considering. Rose suggested using glass marbles instead of blueberries to keep the cost down. I never did get a quote on this one though...

Candlecenterpiece.jpg

something like this would be effective...

Hey Caryn,

Nice job on the bouts and place cards.

Here is another thought for your centerpieces:
Why don't you go back to your planner or floral person (not sure who you have to deal with on the flowers) and give them a $$ number you are comfortable working with or spending for the centerpieces. Tell them the colors you'd like & shape or look you are going for then ask them to send you suggestions of what they could do for you.

Making your own would probably save you the most money and allow you to be even more creative (which we know you love), but since you will also need to figure out how to get the items to Disney - more work and maybe more $ - and since you will probably have to pay Disney to set them out anyway, and since they can probably come up with something really pretty - it might be worth it to just scale it back and see what they can come up with for you. Then one less worry for you...

yeah, since i have to decorate my house now for christmas and i'm hosting thanksgiving, the wedding crafts are about to stop...

those are so beautiful and unique. have the floral department try them. they can always cut down the size. they did that for the bouquets for me and i saved a good amount of money!!

this is one of my conculsions, your's looked fantastic though!!!

Caryn where did you get the opal paper you used for your invites? Can you use it in a laser printer?

it's star dream, you can get it on paper source, though it's kind of expensive there, i got it locally at a store called xpedx...there is a link a couple of pages back that has a replacement for it that's really cheap...

MY CENTERPEICE CONCLUSIONS (i lied, i have more than 2...)
1. decreasing the size and making them round is #1...possibly losing either fruit or the flowers is another option...tinklynn is right, the tables are small...
***Thaks Aunt Jeanne for emailing me those thinks, they bring me to numbers 2 and 3...***
2. i didn't even think about pinecones, that is a good idea, especially for the winter...it brings the outside in...i could place them around the...
3. edible centerpeices- this is one of my brain child ideas that goes with kristen's sandcastles...the chocolate castle cake toppers...how do we feel about this? is this allowed??? would the votive melt them? we could put them on glass blocks that look like ice.

am i losing it? am i going over the top with 2 and 3...

thanks for the input, i appreciate it soooooooo much!!!

Why do I keep imagining that you should have fishbowls with marbles and goldfish as your centerpieces??? goldfish are cheap, right??? Crazy I know! But what can I say. I'm just here to throw in my crazy thoughts and ideas.

And I LOVE THE VEIL STILL! I say wear it. I love it. (I'm seriously reconsidering, I think I would love to wear it too!)

Just a little note about the white chocolate castles.. I remember seeing somewhere that the larger one is something like $275 and the small one is $125, on top of whatever Disney would charge you for the glass blocks, it might not be much cheaper. I'd ask about it though, I think it's a cool idea! :thumbsup2

go on www.birdcageveils.com, the lady who owns the company's name is Melody and she's very sweet. she even called me to discuss my veil! i couldn't beleive it!!!

you're goldfish idea is so funny, being a crazy cat lady, we feel it morally right that we DO NOT have any fish in our house...anyways, the lss has a built in goldfish bowl...i could just see asking my wp, "uhhh, marion, can we borrow one or two of the little fishies for my centerpeices? i'm trying to keep costs down..."

i can't find my cake prices pages, i think it's listed there...

ok, i just found it, that idea's out...base price is 165...

I love the wine bottles!! Martha is my hero! I bet if you wanted to do that they'd charge you corking fees or something stupid :(

I found the article on cheap centerpieces! It's in the Nov/Dec issue of Brides. Some of them are like $30, although there's still the whole assembling them and shipping them thing.

Can Disney do edible fruit centerpieces as suggested by one poster? Or would those be just as expensive? I think your pinecones idea would be nice too. Piles and piles of pinecones with votives would look cool!

I think I read on someones report that Disney would not do the edible fruit centerpieces. A friend of my had really interesting shaped breadsticks as her centerpiece in a glass vase. They were very long and flat and artsey shaped. This was not at Disney - but they looked great. Maybe you could check out what type of breadsticks they can provide.

Also, I am sure you would not want to go with this but something I am thinking of is balloon centerpieces. I saw pictures ages ago on this website that a bride had them at Atlantic Dance Hall. They looked great. Her bridesmaids were in like a lavender/purple and they had Mickey shaped lavender/purple balloons along with some white ones and then a mylar celebration balloon. I printed this out but it is at home and I do not remember who the bride was. It sounds like for a kids party but it really looked great and if we use ADH we are thinking of going with this.

Caryn!

I just wanted to let you know you inspired me and I ordered a veil from birdcageveils.com! I talked to Melody on my way from work to school, she was very sweet. She said my veil should go out next week! She's trying to get it to me in enough time so that if I have to exchange it, we have time to do that. Thank You for the inspiration! :goodvibes Okay, I gotta print some stuff for school and get to class.

they gave me the option of having wine on our tables...so i wonder if this would work?

i bet the reason they don't let you have anything edible is because then it would have to go through epcot catering, and not disney floral. politics...

the balloon idea sounds good, but i have this thing about balloons...my aunt's who are reading this will laugh, when i was a very young child someone gave me a balloon and it popped right in front of my face and i was terrified of them for my whole childhood. i used to scream, "no balloons, no balloons" when i was a kid...i'm not still scared of them, but they make me feel uneasy...so...no balloons. my father suggested the same thing and i was like, "uh dad, we can't have balloons at my wedding." he understood...it's a shame really, that would be the best, most colorful, cheapest option. oh well.

i will be sending laura kidd an email this evening regarding the centerpeices, she's really busy right now (apparently there are only 2 disney florists...), so we'll see how this goes.

OH YAY!!! did you tell her that i referred you? j/k. i told her about these boards and that i would post pics and get her my randy pics when they came in. which veil did you get? did you get a fascinator? i got the exact one in the pic, but she's making it fall in between my nose and mouth with only 1 comb instead of 3...i also got that big feather fascinator and swarovski crystals throughout!!!

Ok so I have been following your pj and love what you have done...keep up the great work :thumbsup2

you know C .. i really like the idea of having wine bottles in the middle of the table. they would make great centerpieces and table card holder things. Not to mention, you dont have to worry about taking any of the home cause chances are, they will be gone!!! ANNNNNND - even if you wanted to take them home .. what a great thing to take home with you!!!!! Im booking my flight this afternoon i hope. Ill prob be flying out tuesday morning (since its my birthday, can we go out that night?) I have to get all the stuff going with money and all that. ok bye now.

The more I look for a veil the more I dislike them :rolleyes1

Kristen, don't worry, you'll find a veil...you know my motto, if you can't find it pre-made the way you like it, make it yourself!!! you can buy those plain veils at michaels and put hidden mickeys on it with swarovski crystals...i always buy my crystals from www.mjtrim.com...
