Carseats-checking them as baggage?

Continental and Southwest put them in a big plastic bag for you. Check with your airline before you buy anything.

Just got back, and had to take a backless booster for the rental car. We own 2, so I bought the older one, and was totally prepared to leave it behind if I needed to. I knew I could get a new one for $25, and I would rather do that than pay a $20 checked baggage fee.
On the trip down we were able to pack it inside of our large suitcase, but we bought too much stuff for it to fit on the flight back. :lmao:
When we got to the check-in counter, the US Air agent told us they would check it for free, despite the fact that there was no way to do that through online check-in or the check-in kiosk.
I would advise, though, as others have posted, to seal it in an XL zip-loc bag and tape closed. (Just be sure that you have a way to open it upon your arrival, and that you pack packing tape for the trip home!)

Have a great trip!

I called US Airways a few days ago to ask about our booster seats (we have to bring three) and I was told by the USAir representative that although they allow car seats to be checked in for free, "booster seats" would be counted as luggage and would be charged USAirway's regular luggage fee.

Your post made me realize that I wrote that we flew United. We didn't...we flew US Air. It was the check-in agent in Tampa who told us they'd check our booster for free. So...I'm not sure what to tell you!! You might try calling back on a different day/different time and see what a different rep says?

I just checked the USAir site, and it has changed since we booked our tickets. It used to clearly state that you could check a booster for no charge.
I'll keep looking and let you know if I find anything...

For those of you that have checked a booster seat using the airlines clear plastic bags, how have you attached the ME tags?? We are renting a car midway through our vacation, and I am curious how to attach the ME tag! Thanks!!
