Well my wife and I were driving North on 436 in Altamonte on Friday and a cop had a small car carrier stopped on the side of the rode and he was towing 2 NASCAR cars painted with Disney characters: 1 was Mickey and the other looked like Goofy but he had a heftier build.

They were rather elaborate.

This years Daytona 500 is title sponsored by Disney.
Called the Disney 500.
They were probably pace cars.

I believe that NASCAR and Disney have conjured up some sort of a deal involving two Chevy Monte Carlos will be decked out with Di$ney characters... the cars will actually run a couple of parade laps prior to the actual pace lap for the race... think the Corvette will be the pace car of choice this year.

This is simply another step by NA$CAR to lure an even greater cross section of America into the stands in what is rapidly becoming the world championship wrestling series of auto racing... more show than go if you will and will certainly enable die cast manufacturers, cap makers, shirt makers, etc. to produce their respective merchandise and squeeze a few more bucks from a new and relatively untapped fan base who will just have to have something with the mouse's mug on it.

I keep hearing more about major teams courting Di$ney in hopes of getting Mikey's mug plastered on the hood of a cup car but the folks at Mouse World wouldn't be able to handle the image of the mouse and a dead or seriously injured driver being scraped of the wall of a race track. Di$ney, after all, is a happy place. I suspect, however, if or when Michaels bean counters determine that there is gold in those the high banekd hills of Daytona they might actually throw some of their millions in the direction of a cup car. Stay tuned...

Not sure what the deal is with the character cars but my son & I were over at Daytona a few weeks ago watching the Rolex test sessions and there are a few of the "Disney" stock cars parked in front of Daytona USA

The deal is as stated above... in fact... was over that way today for the 125's and already saw the ad for the four die cast cars in some publication... collect all four...

I do find all of this kind of interesting since Disney has avoided any direct connection with motor sports save for their brief courtship with the IRL and Silver Crown races they used to run out at their nifty little speedway... the IRL race actually evolved into a pretty good show... was sad to see it go...

Anyway... back to the interesting part... just the fact that they are putting their characters on cars and letting them run around the track suggests to me that they just might want to jump into NASCAR world... stay tuned
