Cars Land & BVS - June 15th!

This is a mixed blessing for me. I'm excited we'll get to see the new things on our very first DL visit, but I'm afraid of what it wil do to crowds. I imagine it's even more important now that we visit on AP blackout days?

AP blockout probably will not have any impact on the crowd whatsoever. If they're blacked out, and it's this huge, highly anticipated opening, it's going to be at capacity.

Go with a light-heart. It definitely will be busy and a good attitude will take you far. :)

Have a great time! You're so lucky to see it open. We've watched all the construction, and likely won't get to go in until it's been open for quite some time.

I disagree strongly. I think the days that SoCal APs are not blocked in June will be some of the busiest days of the year - probably at capacity with folks being turned away at the gates. The days they are blocked will just be regular busy. I would definitely shoot for days when SoCal APs are blocked for a June visit.

I know I could read the DL website for info, so pardon my ignorance, I just know everyone here is way smarter... What is Carsland? I have a 3 year old, who has been to DL 3 times already, but this October will probably be the first trip he actually remembers. Total boy, loves Cars. So, is Carsland a ride, a few rides, or a character spot?

Thanks in advance for the info...

When do CA schools get out? Will that matter to crowd size? We are DL amateurs and wonder if we got what it takes to conquer capacity crowds.

Cars Land is a new expansion to the DCA park which is a replica of Radiator Springs. It will have three new rides:

Radiator Springs Racers - a thrill ride
Luigi's Flying Tires - sort of like bumper cars but on hovering tires
Tow Mater's Junkyard Jamboree - sort of like Tea Cups

Plus new restaurants and shops.

SoCal schools tend to get out early to mid-June and it does matter. But what seems to matter most are the AP blockouts...

"Understanding AP Blockouts and Impact on Crowds" www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2365983

Thanks. Got it now and June 17-20 (our tentative dates) are the first dates not blocked after Carsland opens....so expect huge crowds! June 20-23 is blocked, so not as huge crowds. Very helpful for planning!!

Awesome. Thanks. Any idea what the height requirements are going to be? I know CA leans towards more thrill ride-ish stuff. I can totally handle the DL coasters, but Mulholland Madness scared me, and I won't even do California Screamin'. Will my 3 yo be able to ride the rides in CarsLand?

But what seems to matter most are the AP blockouts...

I'm counting on this as our family prepares to arrive on July 8th. I'm planning on bringing my patience, but I really hope that the early morning hours (hopefully MM or something equally nice for on site guests) on blockout days will be doable for my clan to see the new land. My 4 year old is going to be over the moon.

Has anyone seen any mention of Flo's menu and if they will serve breakfast?

My guess is yes to Junkyard Jamboree and Luigis Tires, and no to RSR. But I have not seen height requirements published yet.

We're going down for our 1st DL trip after 4 WDW ones, and I was kind of hoping it would be open. :-( Maybe they'll move up the dates, or we'll get lucky enough to get picked to go in on soft openings like they did with Star Tours last year.

I agree with Hydroguy; the RSR cars look like they will need a height requirement.

Also, you may not know that they brought back Mulholland Madness, just for you ;), in the form of Goofy's Sky School at DCA--something else for you to look forward to.

Oh, goody. I was so bummed when I saw that Mulholland Madness was gone! I was thinking I might just have to go on Mickey's Fun Wheel, because not only do I love those scary roller coasters, I love anything that takes me up high, and will potentially stop with me at the top. I was actually brave, and went on the Jumpin' Jellyfish with my daughter, once, when she was 5. Now I let daddy go on with her.

My son will be 4 by the time we go, and he's already tall enough for everything except Indiana Jones, so maybe he will be tall enough for RSR by then.

I looked at the DCA map, and they don't have Cars Land listed yet. Where is it? And does that mean that they got rid of that one little section that had Radiator Springs painted on a building?

It is behind Bugs Land and Pacific Wharf mostly in the old Timon parking lot.

Ooohh, hubs thought it was a refurb somewhere in DCA, like over by Ariel's new ride. Good to know they've just added on to the park.

Thanks.

HydroGuy, you mentioned possible park closure due to capacity on dates that are not blocked for SoCal AP holders. We are there are some of those dates (June 26 - 28). Are there "levels" of capacity closure at Disneyland like there are at Disney World? If so, what are the different levels? I've searched but can't seem to find anything definitive in previous posts. Thanks.

We'll be there July 6-14 and I had originally planned to do Disneyland/DCA every other day, with the opposite days being things in and around LA. I'm beginning to rethink my plan since Carsland will be so freshly opened!

Friday - We arrive from San Diego - my plan is to check in as early as possible, and *maybe* hit the parks that day. We'll see. This might be a good for a Warner Brothers tour? Or to see Brave at El Capitan?
Sat-Sun - Tour stuff not at DLR - Hollywood, Queen Mary, Santa Monica, La Brea Tar Pits, Getty Museum, etc.
Mon-Thu - DL/DCA - I had planned 4 days, but was thinking of getting 6 day tickets so we can go in the evenings, etc.
Friday - More LA/Hollywood/area stuff, or maybe DL if we've done everything we wanted to.
Saturday - Drive to Monterey

Does this sound reasonable? I'm hoping that Mon-Thu will be slightly less crowded - it's after the 4th of July week, and during the weekday so hopefully the locals won't be packed in? Will the weekend days be crazy?

I'm so excited - I haven't been to Disneyland since I was 3! :cool1: DH and DD have never been - first timer buttons! Yay! I'm happy to see that the DCA additions will be open! We'll cope with crowds - we're WDW vets of Thanksgiving, July/August and the week before Christmas, so we've done crowds! :rotfl:

Thanks!
