:confused3I leave in a month for my first trip to disney!!! So now comes the finall list of everything that i need to back. Ive been doing reaserch and can not find any info on this. I have to take a pill cutter with me. For one of the medications i take i have to take 1 and half pills a day. The pill cutter I have has a metal blade in it that is 1 and half inchs long. wshen you open the cutter the blade has a cover that slides over it. So I dont have access to the cutter anyways. Does anyone have and idea on this?

Congrats on the first trip to Disney.

Can you not pre-cut them? I used to help my neighbor and my in-laws with their meds and it seems like I precut them. You might ask the pharmacist if it will harm the meds to be cut a few days in advance.

That. Just pre cut and you wont have to worry.

Get those day of the week pill containers and have a few days meds cut and stored in there. Keep your other meds with you in your carry on bag and put the pill cutter and and other items like scissors, corkscrews, etc. in your checked bag.

DO NOT TAKE THE CHANCE OF IT BEING TAKEN AT THE CHECKPOINT!!!

I used to work for the TSA so do not take a chance.

Dan

There are some meds (I have a couple) that it is recomended that you leave in the bottle and uncut until you need them. They turn chalky very fast.

I agree with the pps. I always fly with my meds prepoured for the number of days that I will be gone plus a few more, just in case. I put them inside a plastic bag in case any container opens up. I do not bring any "original" containers and have never had a problem. Leave the pill cutter at home. You may even find that you like fixing your pills for a week or two at a time. I think it saves a lot of time.

I'm going to move this to our transportation board in case anyone over there has any additional information for you.

I thought I have heard that TSA prefers you bring the original bottles of your meds if its in your carry on? If so, you might want to look into that so you just don't bring the week case and have them question you.

If you go here and read...

http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm#4

you will see that scissors etc are premitted if the blade is less the 4" OP's cutter will probably be fine. No guarantees since it's not specifically listed which allows the TSA to "make a decision at the screening point" (Of course being cute helps, last week at LAX the girl in front of me was allowed to bring an 8 oz bottle of shampoo after she "flirted" with the agent LOL!)

As for the corkscrew warning... I have been carrying one in my carry on for YEARS. The only place I have ever had an issue was Paris France so.... Of course a lot of us carry the print of the "prohibited items" with us to assist when the agent wants to "confiscate" our acceptable items.

From TSA's website:
All medications in any form or type (for instance, pills, injectables, or homeopathic) and associated supplies (syringes, Sharps disposal container, pre-loaded syringes, jet injectors, pens, infusers, etc.) are allowed through the security checkpoint once they have been screened. Atropens, an auto-injection system that can help treat many emergency conditions (low heart rate, breathing problems, and excess saliva related to insecticide, nerve gas or mushroom poisoning) are also allowed.

We do not require that your medications be labeled.

Carbon dioxide (CO2) migraine inhalers and CO2 refills.

Medications in daily dosage containers are allowed through the checkpoint once they have been screened.

I bolded the pertinent part, but the above is directly from the TSA site. The TSA are not interested in drugs, just explosives. We always take our meds in those 7 day pill boxes and they've never recevied a second look. Heck, I use a Victoza pen for my diabetes and the individual pen I carry is not even labeled. The pill boxes I just leave in my carry on. The Victoza pen and it's needles I do pull and put in a bin, but it's never received a second look either.

Nah. I always have a couple weeks worth of my meds in my carry-on, in little travel bottles, and have never been questioned about them.

Fortunately, the TSA is not the pharmacy police and is not concerned about the origination of your medications - unless they are gel and need to comply with the 3-1-1 rule.

The only time anyone really cares is if you cross a border. Customs may want to know what you are bringing into thier country. Otherwise....

The TSA's area is limited to security. They are not the DEA!
