Carrying cash & credit card thru security

Have you gone thru security with your credit card and paper money on your person? Or is it always to go thru the x-ray scanner with your carry on?

I suppose that you could carry credit cards and paper cash in your pockets (not coins), but most people would have those in a wallet, which goes through the scanner.

i dont carry a wallet, just cash (paper money and 2 cards). never sent off the alarm.

Most people put their wallet through the scanner, I'm not sure if you have to. Your purse if you carry one will have to go as well. If you have change in your pocket you have to take it out, but paper money and cards are fine in your pocket.

My wallet stays with me. No problems. I put my watch, change & keys in my carry on.

I have never put my wallet thorugh the Xray machines and would never do it.

Stays in my pocket. Never had a problem

Double check the procedure if you go through one of the new scanners. People I know personally who have gone through them recently report you cannot have ANYTHING in your pockets when you walk through - that includes wallet, money, credit card, even a kleenex. Don't know if it's the same everywhere or a YMMV situation.

Correct, even with the past procedures without the machines, everything should be emptied from your pockets, this includes ones wallet, cash and credit cards. I can understand why people don't like to put their wallet/cash/cards in the scanner bin for fear of theft though.

I've flown more times than I can remember (both domestically & internationally) and have NEVER taken my wallet out of my pocket. I haven't flown in to or out of a location with the new body scanners yet so I can't speak to that.

It's a whole new world with the scanners. NOTHING in pockets, and there are reports that belts must also be removed (I have yet to experience this as I opt out of scanners).

One suggestion is to empty your pockets into a pocket of your luggage before it goes through the scanner. This makes it much less likely that you will leave something behind. -- Suzanne

I always put anything that is going to have to leave my body (bracelets, keys) into a ziploc baggie. That goes inside my carryon bag. I never put anything 'loose' into the bin...my shoes, and netbook go alone but that's it. Everything else in in ziploc baggies.

I agree, I usually zip my wallet in one of the carry on pockets, it doesn't go through alone or in a tub.

My first question is why are you carrying large amounts of cash? :confused WDW is littered with ATM machines and every merchant accepts debit/credit cards/travelers checks. Perhaps to some $200 is big bucks. If you really need to carry $1000 plus in cash then you should have a strategy. Just like when traveling don't carry it all together, just in case you are pick pocketed. Keep the bulk of your cash in your carry on when going thru security and the rest in a money roll (no metal clip) on your person. If you are traveling with two adults send one adult with zero metal on their person just to be extra sure they won't set off any metal detectors (no zippers, hair clips, fastners, underwire bras etc.) to act as the "catcher" for any belongings going thru the scanner. Adult #2 does not enter the detector till Adult #1 is free and clear. Adult #2 does not push thru the money bag onto the scanner till Adult #1 is free and clear. Even if Adult #2 is stopped, then Adult #1 is able to collect the money bag.

I'm not sure where you read there was a large amount of cash being carried. I usually just carry snack and tip money. Really doesn't add up to very much, but I think I'll just put it into my carry on.

Well you seemed overly concerned about the money so my assumption was you were carrying the whole kit and kaboodle in a huge pocket of cash. If we are talking nominal amounts of cash then just divvy the money amongst the adults and the carryon luggage, the probability that all the carry-on luggage and adults would be robbed/theived is slim to none. Just spread the wealth around and all is good to go. Keep an eye on your bags and pockets and when you get to the hotel deposit the excess in your room safe and only carry what you need plus a bit more.

Please understand I really only wanted to know what if anything could be on your person going thru security. I like things to move along smoothly, no holding up my fellow travelers. My small amount of paper money and credit card will go into my carry on. Not really an issue.

When we flew two weeks ago we were told to take "everything" out of our pockets. This was in El Paso and Austin.

YUP - with the new scanners it's EVERYTHING out of your pockets. You also have to take your glasses off. That's one of the reasons I'll be opting out. I went through the scanners a year ago in the test phase, so I didn't realize the new rules. They made me put my money (only $20, just so no one thinks I'm carrying around large wads of money in my pocket...) and my license on the belt, while I couldn't even see the belt from the scanner, since my glasses were also on the belt. I also had a really bad cold at the time, so the xray agent got to xray the wad of tissues I had to take out of my pickets
Fortunately, both the money and license were there when I got back, but it was really just a miserable experience.
In any case, EVERYTHING out is correct.
