Carrying cash & credit card thru security

I always put anything that is going to have to leave my body (bracelets, keys) into a ziploc baggie. That goes inside my carryon bag. I never put anything 'loose' into the bin...my shoes, and netbook go alone but that's it. Everything else in in ziploc baggies.

The ziploc is a good idea for another reason; it is very difficult to pilfer from it while wearing gloves. Now, someone COULD take the entire baggie, but I keep a supply of name-labeled baggies in my carryon pockets at all times, so if someone took it, it wouldn't be hard to prove it was mine.

We do a "pockets-out" stop before we even enter the security line. The more stuff that is already in the carryon before we start, the happier I am. The only things that we hold back are the adults' ID, and we do put those in a pocket. If I have to take that out of my pocket for the scanner, I'll put it between my teeth.

Through the regular metal detector, you most certainly can have id, cc, cash (paper money) in your pockets. I fly 6-10 flights a month and my id and one CC stay on my person at all times.

Through the AIT (backscatter or MMW) machines, you are not supposed to have anything in your pockets, though.

Austin does not have AIT, and yes, you may have your cc/ID with you.

Interesting, I am blind as a bat without mine but this was the 1st time I had heard about glasses.

I have no idea if that's universal or not, but they were adamant in Indianapolis that I take off my glasses. I found that part to be, by far, the most disconcerting part of the process. Not being able to see what's going on around me or with my stuff in a very public place isn't exactly a situation with which I'm comfortable.

The new scanners or the old scanners?

My experieince has been different. I have been flying almost weekly for work lately and have gone through the new scanners several times. While I normally don't carry much in my pockets (my keys and wallet are in my purse which goes through the scanner), I have not been asked even once to completely empty my pockets.

You also have to take your glasses off.

I recently went through a full body scanner at Schipol Airport and I did not have to remove my glasses, nor did anyone else. Nor was I asked to empty my pockets.

I'm glad to hear the glasses policy has changed (or at least isn't standard) - that makes me feel a lot better! I did see the agents at BWI telling people to take everything out of their pockets just a few weeks ago, so it may not be universal, but at least is happening occasionally. I specifically tried to watch for the glasses thing, but no one who was wearing glasses went through the scanner while I was there - sorry!

Ds wears glasses. He can see without them. I think we'll be on the safe side and put them safely in the eyeglass case and into his carry on. Thank you everyone, this thread has been very helpful.

We just got back from a short trip, and I never used any paper bills or coins at all. I used my Starwood AMEX all the way!!

I took 4 cards with me: the AMEX, my driver's license, my health card and a Disney cash rewards card. On the way down, I put them all in the little dish, with my cell phone and watch. This was at a very small, one gate only airport, with only 3 flights per day.

On the way home, there was a very nice TSA agent in MCO, walking through the line of people waiting, giving tips and answering questions. She told me that my watch and cards could stay in my pocket, so they did.

No one ever mentioned our glasses at either MCO or our tiny regional airport.
