Carrying birth certificate around

I really feel uncomfortable carrying my DD's birth certificate around, but it's necessary for her to get her birthday admission. I really wish Disney allowed us to bring a copy. What is the safest way to keep it? I'm guessing in a zip loc in our bag would be best. I plan on taking it to the park that one day and the rest of the time it will be in our suitcase. I don't think the safe in the hotel room is necessary because I doubt that housekeeping will go through our bags. Or should I keep it in the safe just in case?

Can you call the state (or county?) and get a notarized copy of the birth certificate rather then taking the original? I had to get a copy of mine recently and all I did was call and pay something like $15 online and had it mailed to me within a couple weeks. I guess this depends on how much time you have before your trip. Just a thought.

Just a thought (I haven't seen the requirements) - could you take a passport instead? These are generally smaller than a birth certificate and you could slip that into a pocket quite easily, which would be safer :thumbsup2

She doesn't have a passport (she is turning 3). I probably could have gotten a certified copy. I didn't think to do it in time. We have two weeks until our trip and the state office for this type of thing is a big ol mess. Maybe I will call them today and see how long it will take to get one.

That's what I was afraid of. I know the state where I was born said it could take up to 4 weeks, but actually showed up in about 7 days. Had to have it for a passport. Can you purchase a locker at DL and keep it in there along with any other items you don't want to carry?

We have to present our passports when we buy DVC add-ons - and I have the same angst that you do, but for birth certificates and passports.

We take our passports out of the room safe for this one day and keep them on us at all times (in ziplock baggies to avoid getting wet on rides). If we lose our passports while in Disney parks, we won't be allowed to board our plane back home.

We would treat birth certificates the same way - and we will, when we have to provide ID for free birthday admission.

A couple ideas.

After you guys are in the park, you can just go back out to your car and lock it in the glove compartment. A pain going ALLLL the way back to the car, but beats worrying about the birth certificate youre carrying around all day long.

Rent a locker and store it in there till the end of the day.

The piece of paper is simply the first certified copy made from the info the registrar's office, so getting another certified copy wouldn't have made a difference. The piece of paper you have isn't anything special, it can be replaced if lost. So don't worry about that anymore. I myself am on my 3rd certified copy of my b.c. b/c CA seems to print them on special disintegrating paper!

So just put it into a ziplok, and once you show it for the free admission put it in the bottom of the bag, and when you go back to the hotel, put it in the safe (the info on it being important of course).

Note! 3 year olds LOVE to mess with safes. Our then 3 year old completely messed up the safe at hojos to where we had to have them come open it for us, but then despite calling a few times they NEVER came by (grr), but thankfully we had nothing in there so it didn't *really* matter...but just KNOW that 3 year olds love pushing buttons on safes, so try to be aware of that and keep her from it.
