Carrying an Air Bed on the Plane

We are flying SWA in a few weeks. Can I carry an air bed on the plane with me? Or am I better off putting it in the luggage and checking it? It does have the pump built in it I believe.

Assuming it meets carry on requirements, I don't know why you couldn't.

OP, of course you're allowed to carry your air bed onto the plane, as long as it meets carry-on requirements. Which it probably should. However, if you're afraid you'd have to explain everything to TSA, you might want to check it. Any other airline, I'd definitely carry it onl But remember, you're flying SWA, unofficial motto: "Bags Fly Free."

What requirements? There are none, as long as the folded measurements are the same size or smaller than your airline indicates for a piece of carry-on luggage. The TSA isn't going to give this a second glance.

We flew AirTran and my son carried his air bed with him. We counted it as his one carry on bag. It was the kind that has a built in pump and it folds neatly into a small bag. We had no issues and no one questioned what it was. We put it in the overhead bin. This was in 2011.
