Carrying a beer at the park....

Getting falling down, puking drunk (barring a birthday or bachelor/ette party ;) ) ANYWHERE is classless and idiotic. Having a tasty beverage or two or however many are clearly within your limit ANYWHERE it's allowed is perfectly acceptable. Your DH will have numerous opportunities to purchase said beverages throughout the non-MK parks. Have a great time!

You know what's really yummy? The frozen Margaritas at the Mexican Cantina in Epcot. Just don't drink it too fast or you'll get a definite brain freeze!

You know, I like a six pack or three as much as the next person. I can go out with the guys and really tie one on, whether accidentally or with full on, take no prisoners, intent. I can do the weekend warrior, commando bar hopping. I can play quarters until the wee hours. I can do multiple shots of Jaeger. I can try every specialty drink in the joint. I can get woozy. I can get incredibly loud. I can see double. I can throw up. I can stumble to the next bar. I can throw up again. I can win a chugging contest. I can pass out. I can wake up, then throw up, then pass out again. I can.... where was I?

All in jest folks! :jester:

Actually, I do enjoy a glass of wine, an india pale ale, a dry champagne, a margarita on a hot day. But not all at once. Well, except that one time during the Food & Wine festival at Epcot. Boy was that embarrassing... My partner came across me late in the afternoon having an indepth conversation with that parrot just outside the Mexican pavilion. Although I didn't get much beyond "No hay chicle en la clase," it was a riveting conversation indeed.

In truth, as much as I enjoy a drink like any other mature adult, it never even occurred to me to want a drink at the Magic Kingdom. If they did indeed serve beer, wine or liquor, I would imagine they'd be as diligent about public drunkenness (sp?) and boorish behavior as they are in the other three parks.

And I'm just fine and jimdandy with that. As they say, there's a time and place for everything!

Obnurse, welcome to the board! You can assure your husband that although he won't be able to enjoy a beer at that Magic Kingdom, he'll be able to do so at Epcot, et al... In fact, if he is indeed into beer, Epcot would definitely be a great enticement. There are beers from all over the world for him to sample!

And should any of you be at Epcot in the near future, give that parrot my best! And tell him Rick from New York will definitely be stopping by this October. Next round is on him!

Welcome to the DIS, obnurse!
I'm sure you'll find lots of good info/advice here -- I have!

...and most of us don't bite! ;)

Never had a desire for a brew in MK, MGM or AK, but Epcot wouldn't be the same without a "Beers Around the World' tour. It's a great family activity, as my daughters would testify.

Bill From PA

I'm getting sidetracked a bit, but this post made me recall what one of the busdrivers told us on our last trip. On our way back to the AKL after an evening at Epcot, DBF asked if the number of people who leave always equals the number who went in. The driver laughed and said: "No, but we always know to check the bushes right around the Rose and Crown." Classic!!! Hope I won't be running into any of you there on my next trip...I'm wondering if the Food and Wine Festival has the potential to get a bit rowdy;)

Hi Obnurse!

Smoking and drinking in front of kids is a fact of life these days. In my opinion I would rather see someone with a beer than a cigarette---It wouldn't bother me to see someone drinking as long as they weren't obnoxious and stumbling around---also DRIVING!

When are you going...looks like we will be there about the same time.

Don't let some of the people get you by there comments...there are other boards where people ask questions like this and everyone is nice and doesn't rip people apart!

Have a fun trip, don't be afraid to ask and ignore anything that yo find offensive...there are more important things than some of the comments some make. The majority of the people here are fantastic...great advice and then there are a few who make it unpleasant for all.

Yikes! I hope you weren't referring to my post! It was all in good fun! If so, no offense was intended!

Suuuuuuurreee you didn't. Why don't you go back to EPCOT where you belong, with all the rest of the *GULP, CHUG* drinkers? I'll meet you at the R&C.

To obnurse, welcome to Dis. I think Bill from PA voiced my sentiments (PA folks just have a feeling for classy drinking) along with Rick. Despite being a person who shall we say enjoys beer, I've never been in MK and wished I had a beer. I HAVE been in MK and turned to my wife and said "I wish I was in EPCOT so I could have a beer." From the furthest reaches of MK, the trip is less than half an hour, and it's worth the wait, whether you're having one or twenty one. But don't have twenty one. You'll forget everything!

Enjoy,

Pat

I personally think that just because certain parks offer alcoholic beverages does NOT mean that everyone is going to be stone-cold, stumbling drunk at the parks. In fact, except for PI at night, I don't believe I've ever experienced a raging drunk at any of the parks....Doesn't mean that there isn't any, just my experience.....It just seems to me that from reading some of these posts, an assumption is being made that if alcohol is offered = too many drunks....I just don't think that it's the case......

You're entirely correct disneygrrrl. But at the same token, when there is booze available, there is always the chance that someone just might imbibe a bit too much. And when there's no booze, well... no risk of drunkenness (again with the darn spelling of that word...)

Actually, I don't ever recall seeing anyone in any park drunk at all.

Hey Pat, I see from your sig that you've only 33 days left til you meet your daughter! That's great! Hope everything continues to go well until then.

Oh, and to stay on topic, I'd have to say that I've often wondered why the one park where the adults most need a drink in is the one that doesn't offer any. I mean, come on, how else are you supposed to make it through the Country Bears?! Why do you think Chuck E. Cheese serves beer? ;)

I'd be interested if I'm the only one that has and if Disney protocol for such things is set, because it was quite amazing. What's more amazing is I've never seen anyone obnoxious-like drunk at PI (although my threshold there is probably different than the parks).

I saw an obnoxiously drunk character at MGM. He came stumbling out of the Sci Fi. He was with a girl (girlfriend, wife, sister?). And she was kind of holding him up and giggling nervously, but obviously looking around in fear. I was betting they were in their early 20's. We followed him (gotta assume anything funky is part of the show and go with it). He proceeded to the 50's Cafe. She ordered him another drink (looked like coke and something) and proceeded outside and began trying to hug a character (Cinderella, I believe). She patted him on the head and waved her wand and gently pushed him back. He tried to hug her again. She looked off in the distance and no more than ten seconds later that fella was out of site accompanied by two cast members. I mean they took care of it politely, but toot sweet.

That's the only one I've ever seen. Although I like my beer, I can't help but feeling that guy probably didn't remember the day, and therefore blew fifty bucks on a ticket and paid way too much for his hooch.

My wife and I thank you! I have great faith the story will have a happy ending, and we'll celebrate next May with a drink in MK. Err, EPCOT.

Well, they were not carding at some stands in November 2002. There was also a lot of throw up in the que for Malestrom and the bathrooms in World Showcase were the dirtiest I have ever seen them (YUCK-I know) so I would have to say yes, some people do get rowdy.

All that information ( a bit over the top, I might add) does not necessarily mean people were drinking too much, it means people got sick and people are slobs. Rowdy has nothing to do with being a slob.

i would classify myself as a beer snob... i am very particular about what i drink... i also am a professional and father of three... i have been to the WDW 6 times in 5 years... i would much rather they allowed beer to be consumed in MK than allow smoking... too often people smoke outside of the designated areas, right in main walkways, right by children... when i go to WDW i am on vacation, i relax and enjoy myself... i have always appreciated a cold beer in the parks (Epcot, AK and Studios) but i think it is acceptable that it is not available in MK... it is all a matter of perspective and i don't remotely see how it would be boorish to consume a beer in the home of goofy, mickey et.al.... i understand the logic behind the EtOH policy... tell your husband that of all of the parks, MK is the park that would most drive someone to drink...

as an aside, this harkens back to my personal pet peeve which is minors at pleasure island... talk about inappropriate...

ITA with smoking at MK, when I do, you can bet it is where it is supposed to be and carefully, cause too many people bring their kids into the smoking areas.
I can understand no drinking at MK. And, it is the one that can drive you to drink. My thoughts, hmmmmm, perhaps someone who has had one too many might rent a stroller and wreak havoc on unsuspecting people. :)

Solution? Do the less-annoying attractions in the morning, then go to one of the MK resort (AKA alcohol-serving) restaurants for lunch! ;)
