We went on the Wonder 4 years ago and I can't remember what we did with our carry on luggage.

We will be taking a rental car shuttle to the port and only have carry on luggage.Do we just bring that with us to lunch until our rooms are ready? I forgot what we did last time.

TIA,
Linda

You will have access to your room about 1:30. Until then, you will carry your carry on luggage with you to lunch and everywhere else you will go.

It makes a lot more sense to give a bag to the porter when you get off the shuttle and to only carry what you'll need for the few hours until you have room access.

Yes that is what you will do, carry them with you until the cabins open at 1:30.

We will have carry on but plan on putting the tags on it and handing it in like it was regular luggage so we don't have to carry it around with us. We'll only carry our medicine and camera with us. We can get by without a lot. That's what we did with our 7 day cruise and it worked out just fine.

Can you elaborate on the 'porter' please? We are coming into Port Canaveral a few days early this time and so will have ALL our luggage with us when we check in at the port and were wondering how that works until the rooms open. Last time we took DCL transfers from MCO so our big bags were all handled for us - we of course had our carryons with us, but everything else just showed up in the room.

thanks!

When you arrive at the terminal drop off points (slightly different locations for private cars vs. shuttles), there will be individuals called "porters" who will confirm your stateroom, be sure there is a tag on each piece of luggage, and take the luggage from you. They are NOT DCL employees; they work for a different company. They earn a salary + tips. They take the luggage thru the dog sniffing process and deliver it to the ship. From the time you give it to a porter, you will not see it again till it appears in your stateroom.

So, if you are staying at a Cape Canaveral hotel before cruising, in the morning you will load your luggage into your car or the hotel's shuttle/baggage cart. The porters will appear to take it as you unload. All you will need to carry with you are those items you need between port arrival and 5 pm. You may have your luggage at 1:30, but you may not have it till 6. SO, if you want to swim, throw a swimsuit in your carry on. Don't worry about dinner clothes for the first night--very casual. KEEP YOUR ID and any medications with you.

No, we've never heard of anything being lost between the time it was given to a porter and the time of sailing.

I know this question has been asked a million times, but I am not sure if the answer changes when you are driving to port. What about any alcohol or water that I want to bring? Can I hand those off to the porters or do I have to carry it around with me all afternoon? That wil definitely have an impact over how much I decide to bring!;)

DCL specifically says that beverages can be brought onboard but they have to be in your carry ons, not checked luggage. This is directly from DCL's site:

Alcohol is permitted on board. However, be aware that any fragile items (including bottled alcohol) must be hand-carried on board in a day bag and/or carry-on bag, the dimensions of which cannot exceed 22" wide, 14" high and 9" deep.

Also note the following that is noted on the same page.
Please be advised: Disney Cruise Line reserves the right to remove fragile items (including beverages) from luggage. In such cases, items will be stored and returned at the end of the voyage. Beverage containers are considered fragile and have previously caused damage in checked luggage. All fragile items must be transported inside carry-on luggage.

Not sure what time you plan on arriving to the port, but it's not really a big deal to carry on beverages. Boarding usually starts 11:45-12:00 and access to cabins opens at 1:30 so you aren't carrying them around all afternoon
