What do you use as your carry on? I have always had each member of the family carry a backpack. But now I think I'd need something bigger. What else is easy to carry and big but small enoiugh for the restrictions and are they strick will they be measuring our carryons? :confused3

Carry on bags are supposed to fit in a metal frame at the gate; I've never actually seen anybody's bag measured, but I've heard it happens.
I've used a shopping bag on wheels; a rolling backpack; and a standard small suitcase (all at different times, of course!)
Check your airline's website for specifications; some are stricter than others; and if you use suitcases, PLEASE put them in the overhead compartment wheels-first. This way, three suitcases plus some other stuff maybe can fit. Passengers who put the bags in sideways prevent others from carrying on suitcases.
You are also each entitled one smaller, personal item - a briefcase, computer case, purse, etc. That's it. One carry on and one personal item per passenger.

Also, if your carryon will NOT fit under the seat and the overhead is full then your luggage will be gate checked. Keep that in mind and don't put the "laptop" etc. in your 22" carryon. ( I had to gate check today on SW!)

Try a small rolling suitcase with the adustable handle. These are made to be airline carry on size and are very easy to get around with. Walmart and Target have them at very affordable prices.

If you fly on one of the regional connections to a larger airport then most cases with wheels are too big and they will make you gate check it. Had this happen at Xmas and my bag was small - (18-19") have taken it many times on other flights. I wish they would get strict again with carry-ons. The size of some of the bags is getting crazy ! people are starting to bring more on again and it takes forever to stow.
