Carry on food for a long plane flight?

This is our 3rd trip to the islands. We are staying at the Wailea Marriot in Maui, and in a condo in the Princeville area. We are almost taking the exact same American flights, except our flight back is non stop as well. The Soup and cooler sound like viable ideas. Just 4 years ago we got two hot meals and a snack. Such a drop in service :sad2:

The frist time we flew to Hnl, AA gave us about 3 meals,on our second trip ,we got 2 meals and on the last trip ,I packed food and they gave us 1 meal. My wife laugh at me when I packed the sandwiches but after my tummy was full ,I got the last laugh. Make everybody happy, take some carson ribs on broad or take a stack of white castles. Those little burgers at 30,000 will make every remenber this trip. :teeth: :rotfl: :earboy2: :faint:

Gives a new meaning to the term "Sliders" :scared1:

How much does food service cost the airlines? If the can serve 3 people from a can of soda, the cost could not be that much. Now they are selling food so it must have a profit magin for them also. I think we the consumer should teach them how much they need us. If everybody took their on can of soda onboard and had their on meal, what would they do with their stuff they already have. Bring your own headsets and we would not have to rent theirs. Lets try to nickel and dime them as they are doing us. A case of soda on sale will run $3.99 + tax. They use about 12 cans on a full flight and really not offer seconds. The consumer gets every thing cut back on him so that the people up top can take home an extra 2 million $. :confused3 :teacher:

I carried a soft-side cooler on the plane as my "purse". People are allowed one carry-on of the appropriate size and one "personal" item such as a pocketbook/purse, coat, umbrella, etc. I didn't want to carry a separate purse, so I just had my carry-on and my "pocketbook" cooler. It worked out just fine. When we were done with dinner I asked the flight attendant to please throw away the trash, I folded up the cooler and put it in my regular carry-on and that was that!

Just one word.... please consider NOT bringing foods that can cause problems for others in a small space such as peanuts. I know that almost ANYTHING you bring someone else could be allergic to, but I know that peanuts/peanut butter are a primary concern. We've had great luck with the tuna kits (tuna, crackers, spoon) and other things like that. Plus a cold juice box and/or can of soda, granola bar, piece of fruit and the like. Filling and healthy. Have a GREAT trip!!!...............P

And now American Airlines serves zero meals in coach on flights to Hawaii -- even though the flights from Chicago are close to 9 hours.

American serves beverages and little bags of pretzels. And they sell turkey wraps for $5.

Any airline that flies to Europe or Hawaii will serve a hot meal on these routes. Even Hawaii from the West coast gets a hot meal in Coach. All airlines that fly the US to Europe will also serve a full hot meal in coach and not a buy on board boxed cold sandwich.
Not American Airlines. AA still serves complimentary hot meals in coach on international flights from the US to Europe and Asia. But on domestic flights -- and that includes Alaska and Hawaii -- American doesn't.

BCV23, We actually called AA before we left to inquire about the cooler being counted as a carry on. They told us over the phone that it would be counted, so we never even tried to bring another one on. I'm wondering if for medical purposes, they would make an exception to add it as a 3rd carryon? :confused3

That does make sense, mookie. It is just that I don't think we have ever been asked about it. Of course, on some trips he just has his little cooler and one other carryon anyway. And it is a small cooler....the kind that some use as a lunch box.
