Has anyone tried to carry a cake on the plane since the whole ban on liquids & gels went into effect. I can't find any information about if a cake with icing qualifies as a "gel." I really want to bring it because it's our first anniversary, but I guess I can order one from Disney if not. (It's just not the same though)

somehow I think if water is not allowed to be brought on, I dont think a cake will qualify either...order one...it will be special because it was made at Disney. I am ordering a cake for myself for my BD...DH would know to order it!

Phone the airline you are flying with. They should be able to give you the information.

Last I heard, you could not bring any food on the plane, even items purchased from venders after you have passed through security. I would check this out carefully. It would be a shame to have to throw your cake out in the airport!

Definitely check it out, but I had no problems carrying on a leftover chocolate muffin with cream in it on 08/25. For example, I was told I could have a sandwich with mustard on it, but I could not bring the sandwich with a packet of mustard.

I'm assuming you're talking about the top layer of your wedding cake. If so, I really hope you're able to bring it along. You're right, ordering one wouldn't be the same. :guilty: I would call the airport & airline to ask. It would be awful, if either of them made you throw it out. Sharing ours with a glass of champagne was a very special moment for my DH & I many years ago. :lovestruc If you can't bring it, share it at home before you leave or as soon as you get back. If I didn't know for certain, I wouldn't risk having to throw it away.

Why not try having it mailed to your resort. I've seen where people ship food items to their resort , why not call the resort and check into doing that? :wave2:

There is not a problem with bringing food on board. It is liquids they are concerned with. I would think if there was a problem with the TSA they might make you take a bit of it.

I wouldn't risk it. They could make a spot determination that cake frosting or filling is too gel-like. They are still not allowing toothpaste and the texture is pretty similar.

I wouldnt take the chance. If they make you throw it out or cut into it at the airport it would hurt more having to do that. If anything and I know it's not the same at all I would order one maybe in the replica of the one you want to bring, or call the airline, but even then they could still say something about it. They bearly let tubes of chapstick on no toothpaste or makeup, and since cake frosting is at times the consistancy of toothpaste depending on what you ordered they may say something. They are still making people taste test baby formula. :bride:

I like the idea of shipping it, ahead of time. I don't know how you would do that, but there has to be a way. Personally, I just don't think even a Disney cake could fill in for your wedding cake. My DH & I thought sharing our top layer on our 1st anniversary was much special than on our wedding day. It was only the 2 of us, & noone was watching us waiting to see if we were going to smash it in each other's face. ;)

There is a Winn Dixie not to far from DTD. You could probably phone an order to them and pick it up while there.
This way you don't have to worry about shipping or the airlines.

Just a thought :)
