Carry on and personal

I have a suitcase size 20x14 and also a backpack. Can I use the suitcase for my carry on and backpack for my personal? Not sure if backpack is considered personal or carry on. It's been a while since I've been on a plane. Thx

When we travel with just carryon, we do the suitcase for the overhead bin. Your personal item must fit under the seat (and we do a backpack). Note if you carry a purse, it must be able to fit in your backpack. HTH

As long as the backpack will fit fully under the sear in front of you it will count as a personal item. Large overstuffed backpacks that don't fit under the sear and must be put in the overhead bin count as carry on.
