Planning on just bringing carryons for our next trip. Would this be allowed: DD has a carry on and a small duffle 9x16x9 (which would have the beloved stuffed animal in it)? The duffle would fit under the seat.

I believe if you have one bag that fits under your seat; and one that fits in the overhead - you should be ok!

from SWA website:
Airline passengers may now carry only one bag plus one smaller, personal-type item onboard the airplane.
Personal-type items include purses, briefcases, cameras, food containers, or laptops (case included).
Southwest Airlines limits carryon bag dimensions to 10x16x24 inches.

i don't know about the your DD's other carry-on's dimensions, nor which airline you will be using, but SWA is as above: one carry-on & one personal.
but just a suggestion: put the smaller bag into the larger (certainly don't want to take the chance of your DD's "lovey" having to be checked). she can even carry the plush as her "one personal item". you can remove the smaller bag once on the plane, & put the other in the overhead.

hth :)

We are traveling on SWA. However since we are only doing carryons this small duffle is not going to fit in the already full suitcase. We will just have to see what happens.
