Carriage Ride Question

I just called to reserve a carriage ride, and I know I should have asked the man on the phone this, but it totally slipped my mind. I had to give him my credit card number to reserve the time, and if I need to cancel I am supposed to do so 24 hours in advance so I will not be charged. Well, what if it starts pouring rain that night and they don't do the carriage rides... will I still get billed?

Where do you ride the carriage at?

We are riding the carriage ride at our resort, Port Orleans Riverside. They depart from Boatwright's Dining Hall. I think there is another one in Fort Wilderness.

I think I might want to do this too...do you have to book it in advance? And prices?? Thanks!

You don't have to book it in advance, but I wanted to because my Birnbaum's book said carriage rides are only from 6pm - 9:30pm. Each ride is 30 minutes, and costs $30. The carriage can hold 4 adults, or 2 adults and 3 small kids. Tickets are sold by the driver and they only take cash or your guest room charge. You can call 407-939-7529 for reservations.

I'm not sure what would happen if it rained. We didn't reserve until we got there, one day in advance. It was great. My kids loved it. And for $30, I couldn't pass it up. We paid in cash, so we didn't have to worry about being charged. Maybe you should call back and ask?

Can anyone reserve a carriage ride or do you have to be a Guest at that resort? We'll be staying on property but not at WL.

Brise Nannie : Anyone can make reservations for a carriage ride.

DisneyBrat : The listed prices are per carriage ride.

FYI, there's a summary of carriage info (as well as wagon and horseback riding) listed here on the Dis' very own site:

Carriage Info & More

We did the on our trip last week and it was a lot of fun...the kiddos really loved it.

One thing I didn't know ahead of time is that I couldn't include the driver's tip on the room charge. I didn't have any bills smaller than a $20 on me. So, if you want to tip, be sure you have cash on you.

I'm sorry this doesn't answer the original question, but it may be helpful anyway:).

Going the first week of Sept. I was real worried about the weather so I made sure to be the most annoying person ever and ask the cast member I reserved with three times  We have our carriage ride booked for Sept 7 at Port Orleans, and I was informed to show up 15 minutes prior to my reservation, and it was then that the weather decision would be made. If they say it's cancelled, you will obviously not be charged. They said they made the showing up part mandatory only because of Florida's quick rain and they don't want people to assume its cancelled when it may stop raining and the ride would still go on. In this case, if you did not show and it stopped raining, you may be charged.

Hope I was of some help? Enjoy it!!! :wave2:

Tumblwd501: :thanks: for the link. It was very helpful.

Now my dilemma is WHICH ride to take--WL, POR, or Saratoga Springs? :confused3 Any suggestions???

Can anyone suggest what's an appropriate tip for your driver? Also, for those of you who've taken a carriage ride, are there any opinions about whether it's better during the day or at night?

Oh, and I think the answer to the original poster's question can be found in this excerpt from allearsnet. This information is specific to the Wilderness Lodge rides, but is probably similiar to what they do at other resorts.

"Holiday Sleigh Rides -- Enjoy a leisurely 30-minute carriage ride through the Walt Disney World backwoods from November 30 - December 30! All rides depart from the Porte Cochere in front of the Wilderness Lodge and will return to the same location every half hour between 5:30pm and 10:00pm (December 24th hours are 3:00pm - 7:00pm). Cost is $35 (tax included) per carriage. To reserve call WDW-PLAY; Please arrive 15 minutes prior to ride time. For same-day bookings, call 407-824-2832. A fee will be charged for no-shows or for cancellations within 24 hours. No smoking allowed. You may bring drinks on board. The ride will go out in mist, but not in rain. Trips may be cancelled due to inclement weather and rescheduled in which case you will not be charged."

Good link..but what I always do (for everything with a 24-48 hour cancellation policy) is check the weather forcast. If you do not have access to a computer while on vacation, you could always ask at the Concierge Desk, and they can help you change your plans. I like to do Illuminations Cruises..and you need to be careful with those plans. The TV's in your room also have weather forcasts.

  • Carriage Rides are only held at night.
I usually tip $10 (but I am a generous tipper anyway)
$35 for teh ride - not per person.
I have only done POR and it is very romantic. Would like to try the others.
They take credit card as insurance against no shows. You can pay cash. If there is inclement weather, check to make sure they canceled them - don't assume anything.
