I have a decent sized kitchen with white tiles and pink accents. Horrible tiles .... It's big enough for an island but does not have one so it's this large empty space in the center. The tile get's horribly dirty and I want to put a throw on it.

Would this be wierd? I found a really pretty green, cream and rose one that will match the current pink tiles but tone it down with the green and matches the color I want to paint on the walls.

My DH thinks it would be odd but I have seen nice throws in the middle of large kitchens before.

Thanks!

No, that's not odd at all - I have throw rugs in my kitchen - one by the sink & one by the stove - Maybe because I'm usually barefoot in the kitchen?

Also wanted to add, not only would I put the rug in your kitchen, I would get a tall table with chairs to put there. Seems like people always flock to the kitchen, and what a nice spot for family to chat while in the kitchen - and maybe a nice spot for you to enjoy some coffee & the Dis! :surfweb:

We just built a home and the model had a big kitchen without an island (we added the island) and they had a nice size rug in it. It looked very nice so I think you should be fine.

I think one of those small portable islands would be nice.

Not sure about a throw rug in the middle of the kitchen floor. I have the small ones at the stove and sink, too.

I think its odd to put an area rug in your kitchen and not something I would think to do, but if you like the way it looks then go for it :thumbsup2

If you do get some kind of rug in your kitchen, make sure it's washable and can fit in your washing machine!

I have a big open kitchen with no island, breakfast bar instead, and I also have the big white tile that is a pain to clean. I found that it was even worse for the rugs. I keep one in front of my stove and another in front of my sink and those still need washed every week also.

I imagine with the boys that they are underfoot alot so just think about the germ thing and trying to clean up spills with a rug in your kitchen.
