Which do you think? Are there any things I should specifically know about these two properties? My SIL has these two at the top of her list and I don't know much about them.

Sheraton's much nicer but it's a hike. It will seem quite far by the end of the day.

Carousel is practically right across the street, but not as nice. A few people have had bad experiences there, but many have found it just fine.

You might want to go to Tripadvisor.com and put in the names of the hotels, and see what the reviews say.

What are your dates that you'll be there?

i stayed at the carousel for 15 nights in january and loved it!! we stayed in the rooms on the right side which are above the laundry/car spots. Its seperate from the main building which means we didnt have noise from people coming and going in the morning /night etc.
we loved how close it was to the park, great at the end of a long day! The breakfast was pretty good, i had toast and juice, which is what i would have at home anyway!

If your looking for a basic hotel that is a close walk (Literally 5 minutes from the main gate to DL), is around a bunch of restaraunts, right beside a late night convenient store, and has a bus stop right out side in case tour buses pick you up, then out of the 2 I would (Bites tongue) Carousel. I have had a TERRIBLE experience there, and would never go back. But the rooms there are clean, the beds are really comfy and I like the fact that there is a sliding divider door that closes off your room, so you can privately change or prep yourself in front of a big closet mirror while the rest of your family is watching TV or whatever. It also helps to block out the light when you dont want to shine the bathroom light on your sleeping family.

Just a few BIG HUGE CANT SAY ENOUGH TIPS for the Carousel... Always lock up your valuable and souviners. Things were taken right out of our luggage. So make sure your suitcase is LOCKED with a key and stored in the back of a closet with clothes on top. MAKE SURE you get your credit card back on check in. They have a tenancy of not giving it back then saying they dont have it, then dont even bother checking for you.

May I recommend either the Howard Johnson or even the Tropicana?

We stayed at the Carousel in 2006 and had a great stay. We did not have any security problems but would recommend keeping valuables in the safe and souveners out of sight at any hotel. It takes only one dodgy maid to give a hotel a bad name and that can happen at any hotel at any time. Having said that we had a really good maid for our stay and would recommend them highly.

The Carousel has a new manager and perhaps their service level has changed, but we would definitely stay there again. They are very close whilst the Sheraton will be more expensive and quite a hike to walk.

We are considering the Camelot for our next visit and we have stayed at the Tropicanna as well and would stay there again.
