carousel of progress???

We just returned from our first trip to Disney in 19 years! It was wonderful. Our 3 year old DD LOVED it!

My disappointment was in the condition of the carousel of progress. It seems that attraction was a personal goal of Walt's and I think it's a shame that it has been let go like it has. It was dirty, smelly, and in one scene the father's eye was plucked out! ewwwwwww! I wonder why it has been let go so much... the last time it looks like it was updated was in the nineties... anyone know if there are plans to fix it up?

That COP is on the way out,I hate to see it.It is one of our favorites and it's a shame that they seem to be not keeping it up properly.I have heard that is just wearing out and is hard to maintain.I hope the powers will that be will reverse course on this one and give it a good rehab and even a little update.

Funny, I just returned from WDW two days ago and I thought that they had started to turn it around. They had new flat screen monitors in the Q area and have taken it off the "seasonal" list and I thought the interior was looking better.

I am having a difficult time believing that one of the charactors had it's eye plucked out, even Disney at it's most lax wouldn't do a show with that. I might have been the angle or lighting that made it appear that way. At any rate it was fine when I saw it.

I agree. If it was like that, it may have happened in the middle of something, because Disney won't let an attraction run unless it is absolutely PERFECT! Once they shut down Pirates of the Caribbean for two hours because the auctioneer wasn't working properly. I've never had anything but a great experience at the COP. I love it - catchy song too! "Well it's a great big beautiful tomorrow..."

Excellent point! I mean, this originated at the World's Fair! It'd be like removing an appendage or something!

My dad and I rode it twice the same morning while I was there. I loved it both times and thought it was excellent. I keep having the "song" pop up in my head. we were waiting for my mom and sister to come from the AK....and we rode the TTA 3 times before my mom and sis came. We were stuck in tomorrowland.

We went there on Thursday the 24th of Feb. And I promise you the father's right eye... was horriffic! I too thought Disney would have done something... but the cm's didn't seem too worried about it. I haven't been on it in 19 years like I said in my op. However, I posted this simply because I was disapointed that a dream like this of Walt's seems to be needing a major facelift.

To me, it's that "corny-ness" that makes it a classic. I see it as a snap-shot back in time, it's like Walt could appear in the spotlight with the microphone and welcome you! Aside from Mickey and all of the big 'dreams' of his embodied in the Magic Kingdom, COP gives to me the most tangible 'hands on' feeling of what a Disney park was like when it was run by a "Disney".

I hope it never is removed or changed (spruced up, sure, a final scene change, sure) but it would be a huge loss for generations not to have this glimpes into he heart and mind of Walt available to be enjoyed.

Is this attraction open all the time now? We are going in May and would LOVE to see it again! Everytime we go (during value season of course), it's been closed!
