Carousel of Progress

CoP and Timekeeper were both running on Easter Sunday! :D
I was so happy to see them both! It had been too long!

We loved the CoP! My DD6 thought it was great.

We actually had a very funny thing happen and I still kid my DW about it all the time.

The CoP actually jammed during rotation and since the seats are moving and not the stage, it was actually quite a jolt.

My DW totally panicked and got pretty scared. Which I couldn't stop laughing at.

I said, "Can you see the headlines? "Hundreds killed at Disney World during dangerous Carousel of Progress ride!"

Just got back and went on COP three times. Found a great hidden mickey in the last stage that I never saw before. One of my favorites. I just wish they had kept the Carousel of Progress the way Walt built it. They could have built a second COP for the 80's, 00s, and upcoming decades.

I think this ride is a classic and, while it may not be the best, is still very enjoyable. I love it whne the grandmother beats the boy at his own video game. It is also funny to see what Walt thought our lives would be like nowadays. We are working on technology like this (visit the house of the future at Epcot) but obviously these are not items found in everyone's homes.

originally quoted by Daddy Daughter Day I just wish they had kept the Carousel of Progress the way Walt built it.

What is the deal? and then the next message says that Grandma beats the grandson at his own VIDEO game??? What the heck??? this is NOT the COP I sure remember way back when (1972 ish). What ELSE is different? Anyone out there remember the old way and now the new way and can tell of the differences?
I have a feeling I will be a bit dissapointed. Better prepared than suddenly start "crying" during the show. ha.

You mentioned how the ride jolted (a bit) and stopped...

I have a story to mention......my friend (she is 39 or 40) told me years and years ago when she was a teenager and living in L.A. area, her friend was working at Disneyland and happened to be a CM at the COP ride. She got stuck and the CM area jammed and she died from this terrible accident.

very sad.............

I truely did not intend to take away from your comical notation of DW's comment of the jam you all experienced.

Oh well, just wanted to share........I feel people that died , whether long time ago or recently, should be talked about....in order for their memory to be re-visited........ Okay, back to having fun and remembering this terrific ride!!!

I think you will still like it.
The first area you come to is an explanation of the show, why it was developed and that Walt Disney played a big part in the planning himself. All the rooms except the last room are the same as before. They updated the last room over time to make it reflect what's available now.

I don't know why but as soon as we get to MK on the start of our holiday (vacation) we always head straight to the COP.

It was closed for a few days during our stay last year and we thought the world had ended but it did re-open in time.

As I said, I don't know why........!
