I was just reading on the WDW Magic forums about the various rumors regarding the future of CoP. Which raises the questions:

1. Do you think CoP should stay put?
2. What would you do to improve the attraction or increase its attendance?

and somewhat unrelated...

3. I seem to recall an attraction at TomorrowLand (in the 70s & 80s) where you walked along a ramp with glassed-in scenes to the left and right of how technology would improve our lives in the future. I recall being fascinated by it when I was 7 (1977) and amused by it by '85, because the predictions of future tech were so far off the mark.

Does anyone recall this attraction? What was it?

I just can't imagine (though it's happened before) that they would take away a ride that is sooooo much a reflection of Walt himself! But you never know! I definitely think it needs a good strong rehab...the last scene is terribly outdated (roller blades, sweaters from the 80/90s and the kitchen is horrible) but I pray they never do away with this since it was an original Walt idea!! After all, I always leave WDW singing "It's a great big beautiful tomorrow!!" ;)

I agree completely with the last poster.

Re #3: Are you thinking of RYCA-1? That was what you left when you got off Space Mountain. There was another way to access it if you didn't want to ride the roller coaster? The "framework" of it is still there - you walk along a conveyer belt. This may or may not be what you were talking about - I was born in the 70s, and was just a kid in the 80s - is that it?

I love COP. Walt is responsible for this ride and its content. It would be destroying history if it closed.

I remember COP from the NY World's Fair. It has a special place in my heart because of this, so I guess I'm going on what "I" feel more than what the general public feels.

I really  COP!

Holy Smokes!!
I hope you never see my kitchen, ... or my wardrobe for that matter!!

I just returned from a visit, and although the scenes looked unchanged, the theatre itself looked better. There were new chairs, carpet, and perhaps some ceiling work done. :smokin:

I hated COP. I would jump for joy if it closed, but sadly, I think most people actually like it. I don't know why, but they do. I doubt it will go anywhere, but I really hope they update it. That last scene was just brutal to watch.

I would be deeply saddened if it closed. It is not popular because people want thrills and it's not really thrilling. The people who enjoy it are the ones who are at Disney not only for the amusement but also the history. There are so many things people miss because they want to go on big ticket attractions. When my bf and I went in December I made sure we went on it so he learns to appreciate the history of the company and how much technology has progressed in terms of audio animatronics.

It was so sad to me how empty COP was on our August trip. I still hope they don't take it out. I do think they need to update the last scene. Majorly!

There are updates slowly being made to COP, some new props and the dog has been given a new "coat". There's also new signage similar to the original COP from the 1964 Worlds Fair.

I don't see why someone would "hate" it though... :confused3

Bring in America Sings! LOL!

Anyway, I like CoP. I hope they keep it...

They can't get rid of COP! It's a classic - a piece of Disney history.

I love the COP. Not only is it a great place to cool down and rest, it's fun and has a seriously catchy tune.

:dance3:

It also has truly bothered me that it is sometimes only offered "seasonally". I always make a point of visiting this attraction, but have been there many times off-season, and it was closed. I think that while it needs to stay because it IS classic, and because it was personally created by Walt, I feel that HE would have wanted for it to be reasonably updated (re: final scene).

I too love CoP and would be very disappointed if they closed it. However, I have read somewhere in the past that Disney was thinking of moving CoP from the Magic Kingdom to somewhere in Epcot. I wish I remember where I read this, I believe it was on one of the Disney websites. So if this rumor is true, and you don't see CoP in Tomorrowland, then head on over to Epcot :goodvibes

We love COP. It is a true WDW classic. Actually I would love to see the last scene returned to the original 1960's version. I think it would be a hoot to see that version again. Jay

Bring in America Sings! LOL!

While I like COP and enjoyed America Sings [Pop goes the Weasel], America sings was totally dismantled. The only real part left, that I know of, is the Riverboat found at the end of Splash Mountain.

:sad2:

I know, that is the main reason I love Splash Mountain...

Oh well, at least I have the whole soundtrack on my Sounds of Disneyland CD's...

COP is one of the classics...I hope it's not dismantled! (I even liked the "Now is the Time, Now is the Best Time" song in earlier years, but my "much older" brother told me "It's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow" was from the World's Fair version...). And to the original poster, I think the glimpse into the future was from Space Mountain...I loved it as a kid, and wish there was an updated version at the end of the ride now!:)

Just curious as to what theme song you all liked best: " This is the time, this is best time, this is the best time of your life" or " It's a great big beautiful tommorow" ........
